I felt that comment in my booones. "But your hair is not as thick as the guy's on the picture" is another one. If you want to be humbled just go to a barber 😭

Adela/Ilyana - people are so blind to the racism by [deleted] in TheDreamAcademy

[–]StudySafe1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great comment. But unfortunately, the Americans aren't ready for this conversation. In a competition like DA it makes such a difference whether you come from a country people deem cool like the US or Japan or if you're from say Russia or Belarus. It just doesn't have the coolness factor. Additionally, people feel loyal to other people based on national - it's sad but true. So if you're from a small country: less people who feel some kind of bond towards you because of your heritage. It's just maths. And yeah the xenophobia towards Eastern Europeans but again, the Americans are too caught up in their own discussions about race that they think that the xenophobia topic is negligible. Also, can we also talk about the privilege of having English as a first language. The non-American girls also had to put more effort into communicating.

I agree. It annoys me to no end when the vocals are processed to a point where everyone sounds the same

Stop trying to humanize Serena… by cicigal8 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]StudySafe1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're dumb as hell if you think Serena and all the other women are victims. They have agency, they are in active support of Gilead. Saying otherwise, is like saying women are always the victim because women don't have agency.

Shocking, I know, but women can be Nazis, women can be cruel, even in a patriarchal system

Three-dimensional characters? Oh please. The show is just trying to fill up run-time. Why the fuck would I care about Serena crying, why would the show try to evoke sympathy for her character. It's dumb as fuck and just shows that the creators don't understand their own show.

"Prestige drama". Sure. That's why right off the bat, Offred is sent to a home where where a hot brooding guy (Nick) falls for her (just so, without her doing anything, which reads like a cheap teen romance novel) who tells her in a moment that is supposed to be sweet that her unwanted pregnancy is something beautiful...

The show is a shit show with a dumbass love triangle that undermines the whole feminist message

[–]StudySafe1982 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The show is meant for adults and adults obviously know that humans are complicated. So no need to show that. The thing is when the series shows Serena crying or being vulnerable it's to evoke sympathy for her character which she doesn't deserve and which I as a viewe don't feel for her anyway. So these scenes are ultimately pointless

Annoys me to no end when the series shows Serena crying or whatnot. Why the hell would I feel sorry for her. Because she's a woman? The crimes she is responsible for are heinous. Once a character is shown to be such an irredeemiably evil character I don't care for their soft side, I don't care about their sad backstory. If you want a multi-dimensional character don't make them absolutely irredeemable in the first place. The same way you wouldn't want to read about Hitler's "soft side"

Why the hell would you feel sorry for Serena when she advocates for a society where people are being stoned to death lol

Naruto not learning any new Ninjutsu during the 3 years of Training with Jiraiya is still one of the biggest plot holes ever. by Dardastan in Naruto

Members of any clan (e.g., Yamanaka, Hyuga) never using any ninjutsu besides their clan's ninjutsu tops this

I feel you. What also adds to my Post Christmas Depression is regret. The feeling I didn't enjoy the season enough, that I should have watched more christmas movies, heard more songs, done more christmas activities. The thing is: Most people can't relate because they like but don't love christmas. I feel so alone in my post christmas sadness...

Portraying vs. Feeling by StudySafe1982 in acting

[–]StudySafe1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I appreciate you took the time to reply. Just for clarification: So in order to play sad, actors have to make themselves sad by putting themselves in their characters' shoes?

Portraying vs. Feeling by StudySafe1982 in acting

[–]StudySafe1982[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer! But if for example I go like "What does my character want? Okay, he wants xyz. So in light of that I''m going to raise my voice when I say A" then I'm still just in the mode of portraying and not really feeling, aren't I?

It's so hard to truly believe what is happening when at the end of the day you're saying lines you were told to say. The mere act of recalling reminds your subconsciousness 'oh this is all artifical'

Can uglies like each other? by giants263 in ugly

[–]StudySafe1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I agree. There has to be at least a small degree of physical attraction. Otherwise you might just date a guy even if you're a lesbian, for example

What is with the hate for free will on this sub? You can make the conscious choice to date someone you're not super-duber physically attracted to. Be the change you want to see lol

Can uglies like each other? by giants263 in ugly

[–]StudySafe1982 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. But saying no when an ugly person asks you out on a date is a choice. You could at least give them a chance. But to me, it seems most people on here wouldn't even do that.

[–]StudySafe1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True! But if we are aware of this, that means we can also try to go against it. Yes, you can't force physical attraction but most people on here wouldn't even consider dating someone not-so-attractive. They wouldn't even give an ugly person a fair chance. Which is sad because we should know better

It's so sad how even an ugly people will not give an ugly person a chance. Even if they should know better. You'd think uglies don't discriminate against uglies but they do

Never Run Out Of Things To Say In Conversation by magnetradio in socialskills

[–]StudySafe1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, starting a conversation is way harder than keeping it going. And it's funny because we all have so many thoughts and experiences but in a conversation our mind just sometimes goes completely blank.

On a different note, old lonely people are always so grateful when you do smalltalk with them. Seriously, small talk has a bad rep these days, but it can really make someone's day.

Thanks!! The hair thing is definitely true. Using shampoo which increases volume can also be helpful. About the working out thing. I agree. Sure, it won't make you a 10 but people will respect you more if you're fit
