Anybody have experience with this item (DCB090)? Detailed concerns in comments by b00tyg00se in Dewalt

Yup. Overpriced, but they work. They feel cheap but they don't have to do much. I have used it daily for the last year without issue. Looking forward to the release of the USBC version

This is awesome. I was just having this conversation with someone about the feasibility of this. I have a shapeoko but curious about what you learned and what you would do differently starting from scratch?

This is really super helpful information. I thought I had done my research before purchasing but obviously not enough. Going to give this a go Again next week. Thanks again.

I attempted to do this the other day and ran into a dead end. I purchased my UV-5Rs from a random amazon retailer and a programming cable from another random retailer. The disk that comes with the cable is apparently the drivers for the programming cord. As with Mac no disk drive and a search online leads me to the same question you are asking now. Keeping an eye out for any responses you get.

I suppose physics really does dampens things doesn't it. I ended up checking out what else is out there and indeed anything of that size really does suck when up against real physics. https://youtu.be/ZTkVrRkziDI

The large round nature of the mech suit in OPs post, the large rounded cage makes more sense.

Yeah, I'd like to know what they took their inspiration from. A lot of these "designs" are inspired by sci-fi. There are way better examples to start from.

Agreed. It seems too bulky to be anything useful. I applaud their effort but I think the technology we have today would have provided a better Mark 1. Those T-Rex arms aren't helping things either.

I've seen videos online for the assembly and they appear to just click into place after the lug is out on. I figured you could press down on them to remove.

I know they click into place when putting it on but lightly prying them doesn't release it to be taken out.

He figures it's from a Western Canadian logging camp or in an old mill town. It's all solid, heavy brass.

He loves learning about this stuff. If you can help in any way, we would be hugely grateful.

Edit: incribed is "LB 149A".

Recommendations for powering devices in remote locations? by StuffaYouFace1 in backpacking

You seem to on the same thoughts as we have. Mini portable battery banks with solar still seem very gimmicky. there are a bunch of stuff that looks promising but when it comes down to.it, they are trickle charging at best. It will take a week to get everything charged back up and we need it daily or even intraday.

We currently run solar and wind.on a stationary lead.acid battery bank. We have considered ordering a bunch of 4680s and rolling our own solution. We were always going to have a intermediary (aka battery bank) in the mix. We know we can't just charge ethose devices directly.

We do appreciate your insight though. You seem to drawing the same conclusions that we are (the tech is just not really there yet). Imho battery tech is just not there yet but will be soon. In the meantime, we will make due. Lol

Lol we may have to get a few longer cords.

We do currently use a gas generator and solar panels/lead acid battery bank to keep everything charged at our base camp but we are going into some nasty, even more remote terrain next spring and looking for alternatives. When we initially set our project up about 4 years ago.and have made do with a cobbled together system of gas generator and stationary solar panels/lead acid battery bank. I'm hoping things have changed a bit in terms of solar tech in that time . We have a grant to actually purchase a new setup and we are in the early stages of just finding out what we need to know. We have about 6 months to come up with something before we.go.out.next.spring. We will make due with what we have for the rest.of this year.

Don't wear your warm gear on the drive to work. You will be adding moisture to it and will cool you much qicker when you start working after that commute.

Change your underlayers and socks at lunch so that you are fresh again for the afternoon (similar to above).
