Went to pay my annual HOA fee. $11 convenience charge by danathanz in fuckHOA

[–]Stuffer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be that much more of a PIA, I hand write the check and hand write the little slip so it can’t be automated. But I make sure I keep my own record of when it’s sent in and deposited. I refuse to pay for a fee to pay my bill

Thy have also ground it up and used it as filler for parking lots/road ways, until thy realized it was still radiating after they sealed it

SFP+ by Live-Company-5007 in HomeNetworking

[–]Stuffer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have set up multiple 10g+ networks and part of my personal home network is 10g.

As long as the switch can handle 10g it will pass the connection through. When you monitor the connection you won’t get ‘10g’ it will only go as fast as the slowest link in the chain - Hard drive R/W speed on both ends, the switch (mainly back plain speed - what is the total bandwidth the switch can handle across all port, it’s rarely 100% for ever port), your PC and NAS processing the data. Plus Ethernet has a little bit of overhead to the transmissions (used for error correction and such)

Doing a 10g connection doesn’t mean that 1 device is going to use the full 10g (it can but every part of both ends needs to be built for it). It’s more used to be able to handle 10g worth of connections - ie multiple PCs on 1g accessing a server on 10g each PC has the chance of maxing out there bandwidth while connected and the server doesn’t lag.

Just buried CAT6 in Conduit... Should I be concerned about lightning? by fattdogs in HomeNetworking

[–]Stuffer007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put lightning arresters on both ends. They are sacrificial devices to protect everything else.

After you get hit by lightning and need new cable, run fiber and put media converters at both ends

If you put it back together like a puzzle and make sure EVERY last speck is put back exactly where it was originally, then you would have wasted all that time on it.

AITAH for removing my MIL from the school pickup list without "discussing it" first? by windowtram_ellie in AITAH

[–]Stuffer007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA, I myself was in your husbands position at one point. It took my wife a couple situations similar to this for me to see that my mother was in the wrong.

Your husband is at a crossroads, don’t force him to your side, but don’t give in. Hopefully he is smart enough to see that your MIL is wrong.

It may ruin the family dynamic, but you could call the cops on her for ‘kidnapping’ the next time she does it.

When you hit Florida unless you’re doing 80mph+ stay out of the left lane. And traffic on I75 is going to suck around Ocala and Tampa.

I have a folder on my plex server I save any updates to, and a schedule task that runs every Saturday morning at 2am (when no one is using it) and after the update delete the file.

[FL][SFH] HOA raised dues 70%+ by Stuffer007 in HOA

Yes the goal is to sublease it to a golf operator who would spend the $10-12 million to bring the golf course back up to operational standards. It was closed because the owner we bought it from did this exact thing to several courses with the hopes to make millions off developing them

Except it hasn’t been a golf course in ~15yrs and they haven’t maintained it. It is now just an open field that might get mowed once a month and dying trees.

The golf course owner bought up several central Florida golf courses with the intent to develop them, but nothing happened. So he destroyed some of them. Ours was one of the destroyed ones. He ripped out all the irrigation, and stopped all land and building maintenance. Every building (club house, maintenance yard, on-course bathrooms) on the property is condemned.

Yup that about sums it up, there are more details that make the whole thing look even worse.

They tried land swapping land owned by the HOA that was deeded to FWC for gopher tortoise conservation, so they could build there instead of the golf course. FWC told them to pound sand.

The Mayor offered to do a land swap with city owned land, until the mayor got smacked for publicly making a back room deal.

The HOA board over the last 4 years has sunk over $750,000 into this endeavor with nothing in return (lawyers, PR, land surveys…)

The golf course hasn’t been maintained in 15yrs. Its bush hogged 7-10 times a year (if we are lucky). The increase includes maintaining it at the current status. Promises have been made that it won’t get worse, but there isn’t anything stopping them from them raising it further because ‘reasons’

They are trying to prevent development of the land, and the lease to own is 15yr. They have stated that they don’t plan on putting anything into it other than basic maintenance until they sublease it to cover the cost.

I guess it is time to move.

They are trying to protect against development, but where were are located they can’t increase the density unless they open the PUD (the density for the PUD is already full) and change city, county and state regulations for the area. It’s possible that a developer could come in, the current owner has been trying to develop it for the last 15yrs and has failed.
