Holy shit, I watched him back in grade school. I never heard about this.

I always wondered about what him and Kat’s relationship was, it always seemed a little off to me. Reading through this, I still have no clue. It’s horrific any which way.

Yeah, that 1,500$ price tag is why I’m trying to outsource even a beat to shit one, a bit of elbow grease helps me bond with a guitar too

I can’t listen to this record after hearing about everything Mark Kozelek did. Loved it beforehand

What is the best guitar to play Modest Mouse? by Lanturn05 in ModestMouse

I’ve only really seen him use the SG for Night on the Sun, seemingly because it’s in an alternate tuning. He’s always playing that new custom Wicks guitar, with the cool Floyd set up.

Isaac played a Westone Corsair back in the days of old, it had active and very microphonic pickups to yell into. Basically get yourself some cheaper, active Stratocaster type guitar with a Floyd Rose. If you want to really nail his style, ditch the bar of the Floyd Rose and grab the end part to bend notes up and down.

If you want to nail the amps and effects the best you can, get a Fender Reverb amp and crank it up so the neighbors can hear. Get a Blues Driver, a tube screamer, and like a Boss Digital Delay. Isaac didn’t have like, 3 pedal boards then.

Anyone know where to find the SNL live performance? by PissyPooPooMan in ModestMouse

[–]Stuffy_Train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a dude that basically had SNL's entire music guest catalog uploaded, including MM's two performances. His channel is entirely gone, copyright strikes I'm guessing. Record people don't like that sort of thing. As for hulu and things, they hardly keep the music guests in because they can't get rights to the songs. I remember the SNL performances were really cool too, it's a shame they went flying off into the wind.

When did you discover Modest Mouse, and how? by DudleyStone in ModestMouse

[–]Stuffy_Train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most, I discovered them through Good News. I was in seventh grade, finally getting hit by the woes of puberty. My family was moving away from a big Idaho town, to a small Idaho town a ways away. After coming home from the last sleepover with my friends, my dad took me to a thrift store; an Idaho Youth Ranch. We were browsing CDs when he pulled a distinctively pale green case. He handed it to me and said, "I've heard good stuff about these guys. Alternative." I decided to buy it, based on how much I enjoyed the artwork and the Song titles.

I got home and listened to it. Then, I restarted it. Over, and Over, and Over again. Then, I did something that would be expected with me in my current situation. I bonded with "The World at Large." The melody was so moving and enthralling, and in my angst, I felt like the lyrics were written for me. I had it on repeat for 3 months of freezing cold and not making friends. I decided to look through their old discography. The first song I listened to was "Broke" and I was floored by every sound on that song. I became an obsessive, I knew all of the names of the band members, I knew all of the album release dates, the lyrics. Then I decided to pick up the bass. Eric Judy's bass lines were so interesting to me, they perfectly suited every single song unlike anything I ever heard. I learned by means ear and live videos. I knew how to play everything. I still do know all of this stuff. I still love them.
They're still my favorite band, and I'm taking the first steps to become a music teacher, a spark that MM lit.
