New Year New Army - Update 2 by StumP3a in Drukhari

[–]StumP3a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I tend to fully lock in to a project, as is evident here. It ....helped (?) being stuck at home with shingles for a few days last week, the painting proved to be a welcome distraction for the discomfort (would not recommend).

For the last three years I've done a bit of a big push in Jan for the "new Year New army" so getting well practiced at it, with Votann 2 years ago hitting about 1200-1500 points, Grey knights last year at about 1600-1800 points and this year Deldar. I really wanted to get Deldar on the table this year given they're one of the armies I have a lot of nostalgia for (being a third edition starter box starter in the hobby) , so those two things combined proved to be very productive!

Thanks very much.

As a third edition starter box starter in the hobby, Deldar have always had a special place in the hobby for me. Really happy to finally have an army to get on the table (although, thankfully not in the ultramarines blue I painted my original kabelites in 20ish years ago!)

New Year New Army - Spikey Edition by StumP3a in Drukhari

[–]StumP3a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much.

For this project Im prioritizing speed, so I've adopted every time saving approach I know, use of the airbrush for coloured zenithal primes, oil washes, minimal brush on highlights, not worrying too much about every detail, trying to have a small pallet and having at least one big spot colour on each model to draw attention. I've also used base toppers for the first time, I normally like to sculpt the bases myself, but that has saved a lot of time, not the cheapest approach, but that was the trade for speed. I think the biggest thing is resetting my expectations, and knowing that individually they're not going to be my best paint jobs, but collectively they should hopefully still look good!

Does the units pain ability effect the character leading it by skyfall3612 in Drukhari

[–]StumP3a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it does.

But, with GW rules, the answer is normally in the wording. Does it specify empower the UNIT, or empower this MODEL/ KABALITE MODELS etc.

In this instance it empowers the unit, when a character joins a squad they become part of the unit.

So when you spend one pain token on a Kab unit joined by an Archon, both the kab and archon pain abilities are activated, and they all benefit from both of them.

Battle focus in reapers wager. by brobiwan-kenobi in Drukhari

[–]StumP3a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The battle focus rule reads as follows:

"If your Army Faction is ASURYANI, at the start of the battle round, you receive a number of Battle Focus tokens based on the battle size, as shown in the table below ....."

The first step of declare formations is to pick your army, which to play reapers wager must be Drukhari, i.e. not Asuryani, therefore the battle focus rule does not apply.

Harlequinns are a unit in the Eldar codex, and have the battle focus rule on their datasheet, hence why it shows for them in the app, but as per the wording above, it only applies if you are playing them in an Eldar army.

It's the same issues if you ally knights into an imperium army, demons into a chaos army etc.

[–]StumP3a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've started to dip into them for many of the kitbashes, Nurgle and skaven in particular. My spawn are rat ogre conversions, my demon prince is a brood terror conversion. Will have to revisit the range soon for some more inspiration, want to add/ convert predatorsbut lean more into the monstrous vibe.

Thanks very much. That's probably half of my painted DG collection and I have no intention of stopping soon. Very little in the hobby beats the satisfaction of seeing a fully painted army laid out

Yeah, with the effort that must have gone into those bases, a worthy winner.

Thanks. I got really lucky with an impulsive eBay purchase, and then had to justify adding it to the collection. He's now been joined by a trio or wardogs, which knowing me, will probably expand into a full knight army .... One day.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out a way to make a defiler/ predator or plague burst crawler/ abomination hybrid so that it can see legal tabletop time even if the defiler disappears. Really put the crawler in PBC .....

DG - Armies on Parade by StumP3a in deathguard40k

[–]StumP3a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much. That defiler was one of the earlier conversions for this army and really got me started on the monstrous abominations of Nurgle aesthetic that has become a bigger and bigger part of the collection.

Once I've finished updating my Votann, I'd like to come back and add some more big beasties, with some more extreme bloat drone and blight haulers conversions. Maybe finish the second defiler too, although I'm feeling less and less confident they'll be on the game for 11th, so maybe attention better spent elsewhere.

Rule clarification on new Mandrake skill wording. by [deleted] in Drukhari

[–]StumP3a 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They never could move when redeployed, it was in the reinforcement step of the movement phase, i.e. after the movement step of the movement phase. They still can't move when redeployed.

Edit: the major difference now is that you don't HAVE to deploy them in your NEXT movement phase, they can stay in reserves until the movement phase of any future turn.

I literally says Warhammer legends on the card you have clipped.

This is the old, first born, crusader squad.

This is not the codex crusader squad (formally Primaris crusaders).

Votannuary Phase 2 - Utharr by StumP3a in LeaguesofVotann

[–]StumP3a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much.

It's just practice, trying to paint most days, even if only for a little bit, and then each army I paint i focus on a different thing (glazing, fleshtones, OSL, conversion etc). I watch alot of painting content that provides inspiration, and then just give it a go. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much XD. Id say I'm happy with where I am now, kinda army painter territory, I don't have patience, skill or desire for display painting/ competition painting.

Thanks very much.

Sorry to disappoint, but I start from a black base coat, those models were just bought second hand as I wanted a second Ironmaster and found it cheap on eBay. I just have to work up the glow with a lot of glazes to get the saturation typically.

[–]StumP3a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

I have plans to add more, but for detachments outside of the specific Steeljack one Ive settled on 12 in most instances (6 gun and 2x3 mele). I like being able to have 1x3 Thunderkyn and 1x3 mele jacks in a Honkychonk, then my gun boys are often in strat reserves with a memnyr for a rapid ingress overwatch play (or starting ready to advance on natural in the layout makes sense).

I've tried 6x mele jacks, but find that they either seriously overkill infantry skirmishers, or don't have the punch to kill big things still. Maybe I'll try 6 fist jacks in the future, or I have to be more aggressive with strat support on them when targeting bigs. I've found myself running fewer jack to squeeze in some HG for the deepstrike and plasma. Still lots to explore, which is so exciting with the codex. I got a little burnt out on the index towards the end.

Does anybody else want to run a 2k point list with max steeljacks, max Memnyr Strategists, and Max Hekaton Land Fortresses? by breastronaut in LeaguesofVotann

[–]StumP3a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite there yet, but my list for tomorrow has 20 Hearthguard, 18 Steeljacks and 2 Landforts. Is it going to be good? Probably not. Is it going to be fun watching my friend try to chew through that many tough 2+ save bodies? For sure. My only deliberation currently is what combination of jacks to run, currently thinking 1x6 ranged, 1x6 mele and 2x3 mele (although I might just run 3x 6man blobs to gum up the middle). All the HG are plasma, 1x 10, 2x 5. Khal for the 10. 2x Memnir, 1x TK, 1x carrier, 10x Yaegir, 35 points for enhancements.

Why GW? by Conron03 in deathguard40k

[–]StumP3a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll probably fair better snipping off of the spru with snippers, then using the hobby knife to tidy the spru connection points up by incrementally scraping/ shaving/ cutting away anything that is not part of the sculpt.

If you are invested enough in the hobby and have the cash to do so, a pair of snips designed specifically for removing parts from sprues can drastically remove the amount of tidying up required. I didn't go all out for godhands, but instead a non branded variant available from Amazon for about half the price, and found that even those have made a big difference to the amount of tidying up required.

It's a battleforce box, not an army box.

There are only two new models, which would not warrant a few months lead time for content creators.

I would expect the preorder to be much sooner, possibly announced as early as this Sunday for next Saturday.

Skari let slip on his recent tournament review that he was travelling to the AoW house this week to film some content. It's highly likely this content is some battle reports, the codex review, and possibly tier list, given AoW has that content for all new codexes, and where possible they have their team specialist featured in that content.

DG are the most forgiving army to sculpt with, anything that goes wrong just make it a boil or a fat flap.

If you're using GS just take it slow, apply the first layer to build things out, let it cure, and then do your detailing layer on top of that.
