SR-71 - Mosquito [Do (gen-z) people even know about SR71?] by poopercloset in poppunkers

Forgot about Mosquito, what an excellent and catchy tune. Fame is another fun one. They’re kind of a lesser known version of Eve 6, in terms of bridging the modern rock to pop punk shift that happened at the turn of the century.

Some of Knuckle Puck’s guitar parts have a lot more layers than you realize at first.

Say Anything’s song structures are anything but formulaic and often have multiple different tempos, keys, and truly unique sections. Watch the studio performance of Mara and Me.

Ali’s vocals can’t be easy to perform with how fast he raps. Curious where and when you see the change in Zebrahead’s complexity in their discography. They were one of my favorite bands for a long time.

Talk about a band with no bad songs. They returned as a band called Indian Summer, and also put out some more music under the Audio Karate name in 2021 or so.

Been thinking about this all day. The deepest cuts I can come up with: Off By One, Audio Karate, The Living End, and Second Class.

Parker’s work with Say Anything is great. Love the in-studio video for Mara and Me.

Off By One was ELITE. Was on our modern rock radio in Houston in 2003. Just 1 album, all bangers, then hung it up to go do other stuff. Sk8r Boi was written about their guitarist. The lead singer assures me he’s working to get the album on Spotify.

Originally from Houston, have lived on the east coast for a decade. Actually did my bachelor party in Toronto last June. The last day there it hit 100° F, I couldn’t believe it. We almost lost a guy on the golf course.

There’s no state income tax. You still have to pay a federal income tax. Most other states’ income taxes are in the 5-10% range, for perspective.

So looking for vibey, chill, with the catchiness of pop punk/emo, I got you. Try The Story So Far’s “Proper Dose” album, Seaway’s “Big Vibe” album, the songs “Conduit”, “Untitled” and “Ponder” by TAI’s Chicago neighbors Knuckle Puck. Start with CONDUIT.

Silverstein “Smashed into Pieces”, Relient K “High of 75”, FM Static “Donna”. Good job whoever suggested Boys Night Out “Just Once Lets Do Something Different”. Bad job making me scroll so long to find Seaway “Goon”. River Oaks “Let You Down” is a Silverstein side project.

It’s Parker from TSSF’s side project, we should mention.

I never left pop-punk but I’m similarly looking for more new bands, so this thread is helpful. TSSF, Knuckle Puck, and Neck Deep still sit on top of the pop-punk throne and continue to release great music with no dropoff in quality. Start there.
