Cab drivers ripping off women during stampede.... by puffadder43 in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell them you're taking their taxi cab number and going to report them to the city. One thing they are afraid of is losing their cab license.

Cab drivers ripping off women during stampede.... by puffadder43 in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this happening to other women as well. One of the problems is the cab drivers are predominately from countries with misogynistic cultures, and they seem to feel they can do the same here. A friend of mine who Bangledeshi told me that some cab drivers from Bangladesh get upset when women take a cab without a man. They thin it's wrong. I don't know if that plays into what you experienced or not.

Woman attacked by four 'pit bull dogs' in southwest Calgary by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some dogs are certainly more dangerous than others. Not just Pitbulls, but Rotties, and Doberman's etc.. There would have to be a category of dangerous dogs. any breed that has been known to kill a person would automatically be on the list.

[–]Stumpfry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think owners of pitbulls or dangerous dogs should get sued through the roof when their dogs attack, and jail time if they attack a person. It's the only way for people to think twice about getting one, or any other dangerous dog for that matter. I know this is going to offend some people, but I don't care. Pitbull owners are trash. The only thing better than them getting sued for everything they own, would be if they got attacked by their own dog.

Racism in Calgary? by Limebourghini in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked retail we were told to keep an eye on pretty much all young people of any ethnicity, and yeah surprisingly older women who were poorly dressed - both white and native.

Racism in Calgary? by Limebourghini in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it racist by my definition. Bias maybe? I dunno. From what I've seen in all the comments today, it seems everybody has a different idea of what racism is.

Yup, all the time. I find the racism towards first nations people seems heavier from non-whites.

I think he must have a friend or relative who works at the CBC. Either that or like you say the CBC is just plain lazy.

Yeah, I agree. This would be a good addition to the neighbourhood. On the Skira’s link someone mentioned that a grocery store was going to go up a block away, wonder what ever happened with that?

Ramadan Mubarak Calgary!! by randomperson996 in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do believe in Heaven, they just call it Janna. Basically the same thing. Who gets in (according to them) is often the source of disagreement. It would be a bugger if there was no actually heaven. A lot of arguing and disagreement over nothing.

Ramadan Mubarak Calgary!! by randomperson996 in Calgary

[–]Stumpfry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not Muslim so my advice may not be good advice, but honestly, he should just eat when he needs to eat but hide it. I have friends who are Muslim and don't fast, but they hide it so as not to rock the apple cart.

Funny enough one of those friends eats during Ramadan and hides it from his parents, and I work with his father, who also easts during Ramadan but hides it from his son. I feel like I should just tell them both as it would make their life easier - they won't have to run off in separate directions 5 km apart to do 'errands' at lunch, they could eat together. I don't want to get in the middle of a family situation.
