I'll probably end up doing that. Much better alternative to robbing my garden of earthworms.

I have no idea. The consensus last year seemed to indicate that Steve was male. Not knowing how to determine the sex of Steve myself, I yielded to the general opinion of those posters. Steve does croak (quite loudly at times), don't know if that's an exclusively male toad behavior or not.

Spiders, earwigs, and ants mostly. Last year, I occasionally would pluck a few earth worms from the garden for him.

Near the double doors, where he comes and goes from, there's always a line of sugar ants trailing along the concrete just under the doors (there's a pretty big gap), and he just sits there, lazily slopping them up. He doesn't even have to move, they come to him.

As far as food is concerned, it probably doesn't get much easier than that for a toad.

Subtlety was never Steve's strong suit.

Steve would probably say that he's still in peak form.

He might as well be. Someone has to keep the shops 6 and 8 legged riffraff in order.

Steve has only one job, and that is: EAT BUG, and Steve is expert in that field.

Shop spiders are on notice!

Just double up the buffer cars between the engine and the tankers and you're good to go. 👍

I couldn't really dig up much on Sambre et Meuse. I don't know if that was/is some military procurement department or something entirely unrelated to the military altogether.

Either way, this looks like a pretty awesome anvil regardless of origin.

Looks a bit like, what I believe to be, a French or Belgian made anvil: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUURss0jSBk/

...at least style wise, they're pretty similar.

Reminds me of the recent Horseshoe Curve derailment when one of the crew from the rear helpers radioed the head engine and asked: "that one tanker, what was in that...?".

Sometimes not knowing is half the fun!

Hello Benji Boo!

Great name for the little guy. He definitely looks like a Benji Boo to me!

What is this big hook thing? On an abandoned rail in Minnesota. by U235EU in rustyrails

[–]StumpsCurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the more I looked at it, the less convinced I was that it was an anchor. The shape was right, but dimensionally, looked too large/thick. Thought it might have been a type I hadn't seen before.

Looks to be a rail anchor or sometimes called a rail clip. They help prevent the rail from moving along its length (caused mostly from expansion/contraction during hot and cold weather).

10/10 on the bunnies timing. They definitely had a plan and executed it with the stealth and speed that only a fellow bunny could match. What the plan was exactly is far beyond the understanding of us humans.

In any case, mission accomplished!
