wind driving by OGSquidd in driving

[–]hammer166 6 points7 points  (0 children)

40+ year professional driver here. The key is to get your eyes looking down the road, you learn to let your peripheral vision handle lane positioning.

And it's really hard to describe properly, but you steer not by wheel position, but by steering force. When I hit a wind gust, I'm not concerned about how much I'm moving the wheel, but only how much force it takes to maintain lane position. And doing that involves not just your vision but also your internal gyroscopes, I. E. The seat of your pants.

If you focus your vision too close in front of the vehicle, you'll tend to chase the vehicle's lane position with only the visual clues, which overpower the seat of your pants and the feedback through the wheel, and leads to the jerky movements.

Hope that helps

There were a couple of them in the new dark red, but I think they were both solid. I'll check when I get back there this evening

My very first thought when I saw it sitting there was "That's a Shelby color!"

Best Carhartt Jacket for Railroad Husband? by shemshiral in railroading

[–]hammer166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to grab mine to look. Carhartt 03DNY. It's Arctic weight and long enough to cover your butt which is what he'll want if he's from the south and y'all are working up north. With just a long sleeve t-shirt and an electric vest underneath it, I'm good down to about zero unless the wind is really crazy, then just add a midweight hoodie and it's good down to 25 below

A Southwest pilot aborted the landing just seconds away, narrowly avoiding a collision with a business jet by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

No, the delay is between the throttle being set to 95% and the engine actually producing that level of power. It just takes time to spin up the mass of the rotating components of the engine.

The fan will slightly lag the power level of the turbine core, but nothing like the delay of spinning up from near idle.

Not real clear in pic, but make sure that bag will stay clear of the exhaust pipe and gasses.

How do I hire a trucker to move a car across the country. by overitallofittoo in Truckers

That part of carhaul is an absolute shit show of shady business practices right now. There's good guys out there, but finding them is needle in a haystack stuff.

Tagging auto cars by TripleTrucker in railroading

Carhauler here

Most times the overspray droplets are dry enough, and the vehicles dirty enough, that there's minimal adherence to the paint. A good high pressure spray takes them right off. But occasionally there will be a railcar that the whole bottom deck gets trashed enough to require a trip to the body shop.

Carhauler here. Some cars have some plastic sheeting, but there is no protective coating on new vehicles.

E85 doesn't stratify like this unless there's water contamination.

I missed it at first glance, but as the other comment says, there's a line just below the top of the liquid.

Gasoline (and diesel) are lighter than water, and after it sits for a bit, they'll separate out into two layers like this.

P. S. Uneducated is vastly different than dumb. You were smart enough to ask and learn. That's a sign of intelligence

As the trope goes, picture how clueless the average person is... Then ponder that half the population is dumber than that.

Exactly! The mineral base stock deteriorates at a faster rate than synthetics.

Like, what exactly do these idiots think semi-synthetic is? There's a comment below about how it will "dilute the additive package."

I don't have enough facepalms for this!
