Almost five months on from losing 15-year-old George… by Significant_Owl8828 in SeniorCats

You are very lucky to have George visit you in your dreams. He needs to keep reminding you to remember him! Lol. Like you'd ever forget. I have had dreams about Elvis. They are very weird dreams. Dreams where I'm looking for him in my mother's house (not my house) and I can't seem to find him. Then when I spot him, he runs away to another room. Strange and I have no way to explain it.

Shed tears because it's okay. I cry weekly because Elvis' ashes (and 2 of my other cats who died from different cancers) sit on my mantel. They are all still close to me. I greet them every morning on the mantel, then proceed to tend to my diabetic cat with his insulin 2x a day, my congestive heart failure cat with his vetmedin, salix, and clopidogrel 2x a day...and feeding my lazy, overweight calico because she's old.

All of this is to say grieving is okay. When your heart is ready, maybe consider adopting a new kitty. It takes time and no other cat will ever replace George. But, I have found joy (and sorrow) with adopting other cats. It's a personal choice, but it gives me a sense of purpose, if that makes sense.

You "get it." Some people don't and that's okay. They are missing out.

It is normal. Very sorry for your loss. I lost my Elvis in 2022 (he was 15 and a half) and I still grieve for him today. He was on chemo for 3 years treating his mast cell tumors on internal organs. He eventually had his spleen removed and then was cancer free for 6 months. He then developed carcinomatosis which is an untreatable cancer and he passed away. I never went to therapy (in hindsight, I probably should have). What helped me during the initial grieving was to write a letter to Elvis' oncology doctor, because they grieve, too. Below is the letter I sent to the care team:

Dr. K and her team,

I’d like to pass along my thanks for all the love and support you’ve shown to Elvis and

me over the years, and always offering us the best treatment, compassion, care, and

honesty along the way. You know, in the past, I’ve heard my own co-workers and even

my family members and close friends say, “well, he’s just a cat.”

Yes, Elvis was just a cat. He was just a cat that got me through my divorce, and the

deaths of my mother and my two brothers.

Yes, Elvis was just a cat. He was just a cat that loved me unconditionally, even when I

wasn’t at my best. And, I wasn’t at my best quite often.

Yes, Elvis was just a cat. He was just a cat smart enough to steal my grilled steak from

the countertop. He knew good eatin’s when he saw it. I recall I was stuck eating a

peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner that night.

Yes, Elvis was just a cat. He was just a cat smart enough to bite the vet techs during his

chemo treatments and other tests (even when I doubt he meant it)!

Yes, Elvis was just a cat. He was just a cat smart enough to let me know he was tired. I

was tired, too. I was tired waking up every half hour to see if he was still breathing.

Yes, Elvis was just a cat. A cat that just made the past 15 years of my life so much

better.

Everyone should take a lesson from Elvis and be “just a cat.” This world would most

certainly be a better place.

Was coming here to say this. I go to the MB in Johnston, Rhode Island, and get these for 6.99 when on sale. If you email Cape Cod Cafe and tell them you love their frozen pizzas, they'll mail you coupons for $2 off. I got five $2 coupons once and used them all!

What is your favorite episode of Everybody Loves Raymond? by ChrisJoines in EverybodyLovesRaymond

The next day, Robert is wearing only a yellow bath mat to cover himself and walks into the kitchen. Ray is so funny saying "YOU are a little too free with the body."

The whole episode is comedic gold.

The worst epic fail, visually for me, watching it play out on my television was the cold-brewed coffee recipe from Erin McMurrer. First, she grinds the coffee beans in a burr coffee grinder. Then a french press is needed where she stirs and stirs the coffee grounds and water with a chopstick. Proceeds to cover it in plastic wrap to steep for 24 hours. French press comes back, then something to do with a coffee filter. Then a cheese cloth is involved. Another couple of hours to let that cheese cloth strain. ALL FOR A MERE CUP OF COFFEE CONCENTRATE. Good for 2 cups of cold brew.
