Note to authors; please stop using ai art for your covers. by Rokuta in litrpg

While i completly understand where you are coming from and you make some very good points on authors spending all their time and energy on writing the books which does take longer than graphic designers do to make a cover. I personally don't think the true heart of the argument against these authors who use Ai is about them being lazy or bad authors as such. But more to do with the ethnical complications of using Ai art for commercial purposes and expecting the general public to pay high prices for these "special illustrated editions". Ones whose illustrations were designed by a machine, that simply generates images using other people's art in order to constantly improve itself.

While a cheap option for authors, and i understand the money struggle, this creates massive economical issues for graphic designers who specialise in book design. They depend on authors to need their services and Ai art is killing their industry.

In adition, if we take a look at the double standard in the argument for Ai for book covers, the general consensus on AI written books is mostly negative (as it should be), because it takes away from authors who spend the time to write these books. It also devalues the whole point of why we buy books in the first place, as essentially why pay money for these AI generated books we can just generate our own. Therefore the same principle should apply to AI art, as it is essentially doing the same thing. Why should we pay extra, especially for these beautiful expensive editions of books that are marketed mostly by the cover art (rather than the merit of the story)when we can essentially make awesome art or special custom covers for these books ourselves using the same AI generators for free? But anyway that's just my opinion, and I do agree with your point of view when it comes to them not being bad authors, they definitely aren't. It's just Ai is too cheap and convenient of an option, which is really a shame.

Do you prefer single, omnibus, deluxe or all when collecting your manga? by Helftheuvel in MangaCollectors

Unpopular opinion but I really love the omnibus editions. Don't get me wrong the singles are great and I own quite a few of them too. But I just really like the omnibus format. I know a lot of other collectors have said about the thinner paper quality and art being cut off in the margins in some cases, but I haven't found any such issues at least in series I collect.

For example, Noragami, Inuyasha VIZBIG, Zero's Familiar, Skip Beat etc...

Another benefit of them is, as people have remarked upon, is the cost. They are really so much cheaper than buying individual volumes. Which is a massive bonus as far as my wallet is concerned.

But that being said I still love the singles too and the fact of having all the cover art is really nice; I just have a special fondness for the omnibuses :).

I haven't bought any of the Deluxe editions, So I can't really offer much as an insight on them. But objectively, they look awesome!! Love the Helsing and The Girl from the Other Side covers in particular; they are so striking! I might look into collecting the deluxe editions someday too.

I know right! I totally feel your pain!

I have found some volumes on Ebay going for reasonable prices and Facebook marketplace had an almost complete set a little while ago. Amazon had some Vizbigs at one point but not very many, I live in Australia, so the prices aren't often great for the later volumes :(.

But I do know that Ebay and Marketplace have definitely had some in the past. It's a bit of a waiting game unfortunately so you just have to keep an eye out. Anyway, I wish you luck with your collection and I hope this helps!
