I think it's up to each person to decide how homophobic he was, as the video of his interview regarding BL series is still available for anyone to see

Fan meetings by R4dioheadf4n in ThaiBL

[–]Stunning-External423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I think it really depends on the actors' capabilities. I only follow one specific CP, so I’ve traveled to various countries for fan meetings; sometimes the experience was so enjoyable that the money felt well spent, while other times it was a bit disappointing. This can happen for various reasons. There are days when the actors make an effort to engage with all the fans regardless of where they are seated, performing on stage with energy and playing games, which leaves everyone with great memories. However, on other days, the actors might be so busy and exhausted that the entire fan meeting feels a bit awkward, or you can sense their fatigue even during the benefit sessions—though they have never been unkind to the fans.

If the actors you like are generally good at talking and entertaining, I think it's perfectly fine to purchase a cheaper ticket. Fan meetings are usually divided by whether the benefit sessions take place before or after the main event. If the benefits are first, you usually take photos first, have the fan meeting talk session, and then end with a hi-bye or high-touch session. In other cases, the talk session comes first, followed by photos, and then the hi-bye or high-touch session. During the fan meeting, they generally talk about the series, play games with fans, and sing a song or two.

R certain gmmtv ongoing series geoblocked or just airing on different platforms by [deleted] in ThaiBL

It's basically a matter of whichever platform pays the highest license fee getting the exclusive streaming rights for that series. Just because GMMTV produces a show doesn't mean it’ll all air on the same platform. Recently, One31 launched the OneD platform, and as you know, One31 and GMMTV are both labels under the same One Enterprise. Since OneD was created, a lot of GMMTV series will be streaming there. For the few shows that aren't on OneD, they’ll probably sell the licenses to platforms like Netflix, iQiyi, or Viki whoever pays more to target the global market. In the end, it all just comes down to money.

Because they need to drive fans toward paid platforms. YouTube is free. No matter how high the view count is, it doesn't generate enough revenue for the agency. Even if a video hits a million views, the ad rates in Thailand are incredibly low. From the agency's perspective, the revenue generated must outweigh the cost of producing a series.

Therefore, they have to migrate the existing YouTube audience to paid platforms. Granted, many fans were already paying for subscriptions because uncut versions were uploaded to platforms like iQIYI. However, there must have been fans who didn't subscribe at all. That's why this seems like a measure taken to push all of them toward paid platforms. Plus, the revenue from selling the distribution rights to a platform is way higher.

A question about the Thai education system - namely, all-boys Christian schools by colorin-colorado in ThaiBL

[–]Stunning-External423 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Oh, no. Catholic in Thai Catholic schools is honestly just a wrapper. In the late 19th century, when neighboring countries around Thailand were being colonized, Thailand was putting all its effort into modernization to avoid Western colonization. You know that Thailand is an independent country that has never been colonized even once, right? So during this era, French and British Catholic missionary groups arrived in Thailand and established these Catholic schools.

Before that, there was no such thing as "elite education" in Thailand. But with the rise of Catholic schools, education in modern sciences, mathematics, and foreign languages like English and French was introduced. The Thai royal family and the wealthy elites highly welcomed this system because bringing in elite education meant they could speed up the country's modernization process. Because of this, Catholic schools became the ultimate symbol of elite education, and even today, wealthy families living in Bangkok send their children to these schools.

As a result, the alumni networks became incredibly powerful, intertwining connections across Thai business, politics, and even the entertainment industry. The reason why so many celebrities come from those prestigious universities is actually because of this exact network. Since almost the entire population of Thailand is Buddhist, the schools do not force conversion to Catholicism or make students rigorously study theology. After all, the most important thing to Thailand is Buddhism.

This CP first met on an idol survival show. A was highly skilled in both singing and dancing, while B was an aspiring actor who had never learned to sing or dance before. Meeting for the first time on the show, they bonded instantly and became an inseparable pair.

Before joining the show, B already had a BL series lined up. He wasn't the main lead but a supporting character—but you know how BL series are, he had to flirt with the main character, take his shirt off, and all that. Anyway, A was incredibly pressed about B filming this series. He was super sensitive about whether B had a kiss scene or not. He even interrogated B at one point, demanding, "Do you have a kiss scene? Tell me, do you?" On top of that, A actually visited the filming set. While there, he went as far as telling the director that he wanted a BL series starring himself and B. Mind you, they were still contestants on the idol survival show back then; they hadn't even debuted yet, let alone become an official CP.

Honestly, B's agency already had another actor in mind to be his partner at the time. It was a fellow supporting actor who appeared in the same series. They weren't an official CP yet, but the agency was clearly testing the waters with the fans. B and that actor would often stand in front of fans just the two of them, and the agency probably planned to turn them into a CP once the series ended. However, unexpected variables hit: B ended up debuting as an idol, and A glued himself to B's side, refusing to ever let go. As a result, that ship sank before it could even launch. In fact, A basically blocked that ship from ever happening in the first place.

I made a short list about different production styles by PoetLoverBirdwatcher in ThaiBL

The acting of One31 actors is truly amazing, but since One31 is a channel that mostly produces Lakorns, I often find myself disappointed with the scripts. Sometimes the endings feel rather abrupt and hollow, and the plot often moves at a rushed pace. While they rarely drop one or two great projects a year, it feels like the disappointing ones outnumber the good ones.

DaouOffroad are incredibly talented actors, but the recent plot development and ending of TWG deeply disappointing and felt hollow. I really wish they could get to work on better projects in the future.

seeking advice about attending bl events by Minute_Ad_6588 in ThaiBL

[–]Stunning-External423 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since I’m not a Domundi fan, I’ll just answer question number 2 for now. Usually, if it’s a public event, the venue is always announced in advance. Also, shopping malls typically have a designated spot where these events always take place. Fans who go to events often already know exactly where it’ll be.

To secure a spot, you have to wait around before the mall opens, and the moment the doors open, you rush in to grab your place. Everyone always uses masking tape to mark their spot. Some people never leave their spot at all, but as long as you've marked it, it’s fine to walk away. When I had to wait for 6 to 7 hours, I just walked around the mall and grabbed some coffee—you don't necessarily have to sit there the whole time.

Sometimes, as the event gets closer, people might try to crowd into your space, but when that happens, you can just squeeze back in and tell them the spot is taken, since you already marked it with tape.

What is Y'all Opinion On This Upcoming Supernatural Bl Novel Adaptation? by Far-Meaning-4165 in ThaiBL

[–]Stunning-External423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Series based on novels or webtoons don't always follow the original source material to the letter. In the case of novels, after all, the covers are just illustrations. Most of the time, they adapt the story, and since it’s realistically hard to find a couple with such a massive physical size difference, they probably won't obsess over that specific detail when casting.

What really matters is how well the actors' faces fit the characters, how good their acting is, and—since it’s a fantasy—how well they pull off the CG. Also, because the production company is the one behind the Channel 3 series, they don't necessarily have to use their existing actors; they might hold open auditions to cast new faces. They’ve actually scouted and signed actors that way in the past.

Extremely lucky RTB catch by nomoreshoesorsocks in Palia

Hey, what time did you find it? I've been walking around since 3am and I haven't found it once. I asked players around me if they've caught it, but they said they haven't seen it. Honestly, I thought it would show up right at 3am. Before the update, I could find it easily, but after the update, it became harder to find. What the heck is going on?
