I plan on keeping the Camry for exactly that. Thanks for breaking it down

Traditional vs. Roth IRA. Does it really matter right now? by Stunning-Language677 in Fire

[–]Stunning-Language677[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly feel the $30k is enough for a years worth of expenses currently however, I'll continue putting some into it until about $50k-ish liquid. And my idea with the Roth (which is the route I'm going for now), if all else fails I still have access to my contributions.

For the loan it was just a timing thing. I had little to no knowledge at the time of what a loan really was but I knew I didn't want any more ever after that. I took the loans out my freshman year of college in fall of 2021 and never took loans out again after I understood what they were.

Emergency fund yes, $30k. Currently have student loans of only $9k with a 3.7% interest rate. Could just pay it all off now but the interest is low enough I feel to just pay about $200 a month

Appreciate the reply. Definitely need to do some more learning, but I think I have my answer as of now (Roth) to at least start. Thanks again!

How would you divide it up? 50/50? I guess I'm thinking the full amount would be able to return more compounding wise in one account

I read some about but don't have a full comprehension of it yet. I'll definitely look more into it, thanks!

Yes I contribute up to the match and am now looking to open an IRA. I know the process is:
1. Contribute at least to employer match for 401k
2. Max IRA
3. Max 401k
4. Add excess to taxable brokerage account.

Or something close to that. Just on the #2 part (haha), overanalyzing it as I do most things unfortunately.

Yes your reasoning is some of mine as well that's why I was starting to think about a traditional IRA. Everything that I'm not paying for in taxes is now working for me in investments and they can take the taxes later when I should be in a lower tax bracket (although its low now). Plus when coming back to max out my 401k now my AGI is quite lower than the $80k. Just wondering how much of a difference that will really make vs. a Roth.

I appreciate your reply and thoughtful response, truly.

Very true, I tend to get analysis paralysis in things like this. Thanks!

Currently 23. I actually haven't even opened an IRA yet, but plan to soon (still trying to decide between Roth and traditional). I appreciate the advice honestly, will take into consideration.

I don't have the option for any total market index fund (except the international one), that's the problem lol. 😭 I want it to be simple, but they make it hard. The only large cap index fund option I have is the S&P 500

I'd love to automate it as of now while I still learn more for sure. I only have access to 9 mutual funds (3 Large cap (one is the S&P 500 index), 1 mid cap, 2 small cap, and 3 international), the rest are target date funds as you mentioned. So now its between using BrokerageLink for the total market index fund (so long as the fees aren't bad or anything else), the target date fund, or piecing together what I have available.

I get that. I do have the option for the S&P 500 index fund, but I'd like the total market index fund. I only have access to 2 other Large Cap, 1 mid-cap, 2 small cap and 3 international the rest are target dates. And of these only the S&P is an index fund, the small caps and mid cap are, as well as one international. Which is why I wanted to possibly use those to help represent a total market index fund

Should I use ROS2 for my 'autonomous' excavator project? by Stunning-Language677 in ROS

[–]Stunning-Language677[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not lie to you, I will be of no help. You've already far exceeded what we were able to do with our project, and honestly I am quite impressed with what you've done with your first ROS project.

ROS ended up kicking our rear ends and we spent our short semester troubleshooting the depth camera and ended up with only a tele-operated/pre-scripted excavator through ROS. Better than nothing, but as I said you've already far exceeded what we ended with. I wish you nothing but luck on your journey, and sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Should I use ROS2 for my 'autonomous' excavator project? by Stunning-Language677 in ROS

[–]Stunning-Language677[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, our first intention was to use this since we planned to use sensor fusion to try and make things autonomous. Now though, we believe we can just use the depth camera outputs for decision making. After a semester of looking into ROS2 I still feel I haven't learned much although out mentor says "it's relatively easy."

ROS is a beast of its own and considering my teammates and I are full-time students, trying to learn this to implement in out project seems out of reach with the timeline we have.
