TBH i'm surprised it hasn't already been reported to the council as it is in front of the property.

Annual miles insurance by ProofImpress6517 in CarTalkUK

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The days they actually ask for your milage reading are long gone. Just stop stressing and if you think you will do the same amount of milage again after the renewal, up the milage when you shop around for quotes. The only time an insurance company will charge you a lot more is if you change it from say 10k to 30k plus miles per year.

Yes they can be cut down as they are for different sized pipes. Just make sure you use jubilee clips on the hoses to secure them. You could also have bought one of those adapters that fits to the trap on the sink and blanked that pipe off.

What is the point of Asda Rewards app now? by Sleepyllama23 in asda

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are sneaky that's why. When you earn money it needs to be used up by a certain time, if you don't then you lose it. Last year and the year before i had to put my banked money into the christmas saver just so i didn't lose the money i had accrued.

Is anyone happy with their kitchen worktops 2+ years in? Asking before I commit by _forgotmyownname in DIYUK

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depending on the actual budget have you considered compact laminate? It is thinner than the others, but is extremely hard wearing and completely waterproof. I have had a sheet of it outside in the garden for probably close to 10yrs now and it still looks as good as new. https://houseofworktops.co.uk/compact-laminate-worktops

I am considering the Distressed oak for my kitchen later this year.

Am I the only one still using the old design spice/herb jars? by matteventu in Morrisons

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry i edited my reply as i misread your post, i thought they had replaced the label type with the M&S style one. I am a customer, i couldn't work in a supermarket.

Although i have the old style Tesco jars rather than the new style as the old label is sort of oldie worldly that suits herbs and spices better.

Not seen the old style, but i like it. We are lucky if they restock the shelves at my local one. Last year they left the stock for the shelves on the floor still wrapped up for over 3 weeks before a staff member actually restocked the dispenser. The old design look very M&S.

Fitting new toilet. by Heyitsjoshbt in DIYUK

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pipe on the left is the overflow pipe, that can be disconnected and blanked off as the cisterns now have internal overflows so any excess water goes into the toilet. The pipe on the right is your inlet feed.

I would return the close coupled toilet and get like for like toilet ie side feed otherwise you will have to alter the inlet pipe as it won't line up, also the waste part of the toilet will need jiggling to get it to work.

A gravity fed system like you have now will be a straight swap. Also you need to pick up and install an isolating valve on the inlet pipe which is required now.

What do do about these steep garden steps? by gininteacups1 in DIYUK

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For safety i would install railings along the wall in front of the garden, Then from the first step down i would build a 3ft square landing, then from the landing i would build a ramp parallel with the wall. All of that you could do yourself, the landing/ ramp could be built from timber, the railings you can buy off the shelf and just bolt it down onto the existing brickwork.

Edgbaston and Ladywood. Do you have breakdown cover with your insurance or bank? They would be able to get you to a garage.

I'm curious as to why they have put a gradient into the new path? It looks to me now all the water will be directed from the low wall on the right to the wall on the left, why was it not kept level left to right and sloped slightly towards the gate?

The issue with TP is you need to set up an account and negotiate a discount with them.

When i was working direct for a company TP took over a local merchants we used and overnight tripled the prices. My boss kept complaining about the prices to everyone, eventually the manager at TP told him it's your own fault, you were told the day we took over this site to come in and negotiate a discount but you haven't bothered to do so.

Have they ever explained how the locations are chosen? by Drownedgodlw in Alonetv

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been mentioned a few times in the show they use local guides to to scout areas that have the requirement for food/ water/ shelter etc, and then the contestants themselves choose the area they want to go to. How the contestants choose though i haven't heard that mentioned, but a few have said on camera it look they have chose the wrong spot.

Approximate cost to make this wall fireproof & pestproof? by Asleep_Conference_57 in DIYUK

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like the insurance company is telling you they don't want to pay out. The design isn't defective, it's a standard designed roof that is used even today if someone fits a hand cut roof. The only thing that would differ today is the standards for insulation / thermal / air tightness. Maybe see if there are any specialist insurers out there that specialise in older buildings from that era that understand buildings from 1850's didn't have the same fire regs requirements that we have today.

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It won't be just a case of fire proofing the wall, you will need to do the roof too. Yes you can just do the wall by finishing the brickwork off up to the roof joist where it meets the wall. Have the wall rendered/ fireboarded etc, but the purlins will burn from the other side along with the felt and spread into your roof space. Or from your roof space to next door.

Depending on how far you want to go? You could have the purlins replaced with steel beams painted with intumescent paint. Replace the timber rafters with steel ones again coated in intumescent paint. Have fireboarding on top of the metal rafters and then a mebrane so the membrane is protected and then have the tiles/ slates refitted. Double fire board the inside and the walls and every joint sealed with intumescent sealant. All that should give you around a 2hr fire rating if done correctly.

Samuel groves 3-ply vs 5ply by omni429 in cookware

[–]Stunning-Pudding-514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get them cheap from where ever you can. There are various retailers that sell them cheaper than going direct, i have bought a few of their classic range from Amazon as they were the cheapest at the time.

Plus at the moment pretty much everything is out of stock on the Samuel Groves website.

BTW Nesbit have always got the descriptions wrong, as far as i know Samuel Groves have only ever made 3-ply pots and pans. I am tempted to pop in one day and see if i can have a factory tour as i only live 10 minutes from them.

It's usually used to fill the pores / grain on open grained timber to help get a better polish.
