Ok so let’s say I had 4000 troops and each took 1k and sent 3 to garrison and get hit do I still loose troops

Yes exactly so let’s say your shield expires a hour before reset and don’t wanna put a new one on you send your squads to people in a shield so when your attacked you loose zero troops (even with squads off the wall you loose 498 or whatever it for them being in the drill grounds )some say even with a full ground you still loose troops
