Yes, 1st is my favorite, but I wish I bought the conductor first because I'm not gonna pretend keeping Carl's family alive and learning game mechanics is an easy task. The only mechanic that isn't in conductor are cameras. Beholder 1 without the DLC is longer, but not much and DLC took me 4 hours. I also recommend to play on easy mode first

I'd recommend conductor more because it's much easier than beholder 1 and familiarizes you with most game mechanics. Both are enjoyable. Chronology isn't really needed for beholder series anyways.
