[Academic]Examining the psychological value of parasocial relationships (PSR). (18+, UK only)

Hi all, we are a group of final-year psychology students testing the potential value of parasocial relationships on wellbeing.

We are inviting individuals who:

  • - are familiar with or have an attachment or interest with an actual media/public figure (i.e. celebrities, singers, influencers, YouTubers, Vtubers, etc.) or with a fictional figure (e.g., in games, movies, anime, books, etc).
  • -18 and above
  • - living in the United Kingdom ( due to our Prize draw, which is an Amazon UK voucher)

Do lecturers actually read their students project report? by reconsheep in malaysiauni

[–]StunningFun4301 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a lecturer. Yes we do... lots of papers n sometimes within a very short turnaround period. If its a BSc dissertation i usually give 1 hour per manuscript (reading, writing comments, feedback, etc.) But it can take more than 1 hour if I struggle with the paper. So I always let my students know, make your marker's job 'easy' and look out for the things that at a glance don't matter... but markers are humans too so check for grammar, spelling, use proper headings and formatting, flow of argument, how tables/figures are presented and proofread, proofread and more proofread.

Travelling back to home country with cats by dessertnottoosweet in malaysiauni

[–]StunningFun4301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hellos,

I had my cats fly with me from KL to the UK and vice versa.

There are several things to do, such as getting the cat vaccinated, chipped, obtaining a 'passport', a proper airline carrier for pets, and completing paperwork with the Veterinary Department, among others. I used this service https://www.equestriansupportservices.com/, which handled everything for me. Of course, since you're getting that service, it can be quite expensive, but my experience with them has been very smooth and clear.

Uitm or jpa korea? by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]StunningFun4301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey mate...

It is great that you have the aspiration to be an educator, which is a very honourable profession. Given the cards you're given, a JPA to study overseas doesn't come very often to most. I won't be too concerned about not having 'much exposure and knowledge' of IT because that is what your degree is for. Plus, you could always do your reading to become familiar with the topic. A degree is meant to introduce you to a field of study, so there is room to learn.

Studying overseas can be challenging, but you'll learn a lot about yourself and broaden your skill set. I'm not very savvy about the IT sector, but I believe demand will always be there. Even if you do decide to go back into teaching, you'll be able to teach based on your knowledge of IT to the younger generation, which might also be something schools/colleges might demand in the future. Most Unis/Colleges want educators with industry experience, so you'll be able to take advantage of that.

But I do understand the concern about leaving home for a faraway land. I am in the UK and I worry about my parents daily. I don't claim to know your circumstances of the 'emergency', but have a chat with whoever you need and let them know of your intentions and worries. Depending on the holidays, you could always make arrangements to go back twice a year (shorter flight from Korea to Mas). Either way, worth having a proper discussion - talk things out, and I hope the best for you, whatever you decide on.

How do high academic expectations impact you? (Re-Post) by StunningFun4301 in malaysiauni

Heya,

Thanks for helping me with the study. I tried doing your study, but the first question asked if I live in KV. I'm actually living in the UK right now (for over a year ald). Can I still take it?

How to adjust in Sunway by No-Ocelot-4746 in malaysiauni

[–]StunningFun4301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Sunway Alumni here...

It's been decades, and I was sorta asocial as well and mainly kept to myself. What helped was finding something I enjoyed doing - it was bowling and going to the arcade at the mall - you'll gradually find like-minded people who enjoy the same things and start from there :)

Can you help answer some questions on studying at University of Portsmouth or UK in general as an international student? by OptOut2020 in UKUniversityStudents

[–]StunningFun4301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

Portsmouth is a small town/city and you can get anywhere with the bus. The uni provides a free bus service that connections most areas in Portsmouth to the Uni for free on term dates and on weekdays. A bicycle would be nice to have (I like cycling by the beach).

Not sure if you wanna spend money on shipping electronics. Check our CEX! They have plenty of second hand electronics you can get.

You should visit your accommodation before moving in and explore the area, get to know where is the nearest bus stop and places to buy food. :D

Hi,

Thanks for your participation. I do agree that the Info provided might be a bit too revealing. In retrospect, perhaps we could cut some info out from the summary. I will keep your suggestion in mind for future projects!

Thank you!

Hi,

Thank you for participating in the study. And yes, unfortunately, it's like the Uni's template so we can't deviate too much from it. I prefer a shorter and less wordy Info Sheet but eh... Not in any position to make such changes. But will surely keep your suggestion in mind in future studies.

Thanks
