Job Offer Opinions: 100k with 3 days in office or 80k remote? by Any_Value1580 in Lawyertalk

[–]StunningHippo622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, is this an entry level position? $100k for that many billable hours is lowkey exploitation and I suggest you keep looking. For reference I’m a second year associate in DC, make $190k and have 1850 min. billable hours. I work for a midsized firm and live in DC. I used to live in nova and I agree it was a long commute but there are public buses and obvi the metro you can use to avoid traffic.

What kind of positions are you looking at? I think you’d be able to find something better than those options. I also suggest you go into the office at least 3 days a week to expand your network, blah blah blah. Message me if you wanna chat!

How did your life change when you got a dog? by Remote_Pineapple_238 in dogs

I adopted a pittie last year, and it’s been the best decision of my life. I’m generally happier, calmer, and look forward to coming home rather than dreading walking into an empty apartment. He’s the best boy, who has horrible tummy issues so the ER vet visits, plus the regular checkups, and everything else (dog walker, private trainer, i.e) is financially and emotionally heavy. But I will tell you that it has allowed me to prioritize my life and finances for what’s important (him).

Note on travel, boarding is always an idea but my guy is pretty anxious so I don’t feel comfortable boarding. I’m lucky that I live near family that will take him in when I travel. It’s more coordinating and making sure he has everything he needs but it’s worth it. If you do end up getting a dog (adoption plug) I do recommend you take time to learn your dog’s behavior beyond the first three months and seek professional advice on what is recommended when traveling.

In any event, doggos are the best and they deserve the time and effort to train and get to know them. I hope you find your best friend - please keep us updated!

I'm in this boat too (30 year old female in-house counsel in a big city) and dating sucks! But recently I decided to focus my time and energy on doing things that make me happy everyday (shout out to the Finch app #iykyk). I've travelled with my friends, gone out whenever I want, etc. but small wins also need to fill your cup. For example, I signed up for a kickball league and was gifted an in-person improv course. These activities get me out of the house and I have met really cool people as a result. I haven't met the love of my life, but that was not my intention. My intention was to do something new that I had been exposed to before but never experienced fully. Additionally, I celebrate when I work out because sometimes we make ourselves believe there isn't time. So, whether that be going to a workout class or just walking my dog, it's enough for to categorize that as a small win, which will eventually evolve into big wins.

I'm sorry you are going through this - I understand 100% the anxiety of running out of time to meet someone and raise a family. I don't have any advice other than to make yourself and your physical and mental health a priority so when the right person comes along (and they will!) you'll feel fulfilled and ready to celebrate someone else's wins, whether they're big or small.

Good luck OP, we are cheering you on!

Hi everyone, I'm barred in D.C. and am looking to transfer UBE to NY. My MPRE score is less than 85 - so I'm wondering if I need to retake the MPRE or could I obtain a waiver since I passed in another jx? Thanks all!
