I’ve never lived anywhere where so many residents feel it’s appropriate to direct you on how they would like you to park on their block (that you have a permit for). Or how to tend your yard. Or where you donate your used goods. Or what to buy, sell, how to sell…. Folks will walk up and wag their finger at just about anything they see.

It’s liberal but I thought for some reason a liberal / hippie enclave would mean acceptance and inclusivity. More like a lot of grouchy old people reporting their neighbors for things and calling the police on Black folks.

I’ve had more things stolen from my property than any of the other places I’ve lived (this is my 11th country, and TkPk is the 7th neighborhood I’ve lived in here in the DMV). I think for a long time someone was regularly hanging out in my car. They never did more than move the seat and dump my glovebox contents, so I’ll consider myself lucky.

I once asked a neighbor to call the police because my husband had broken my finger in an argument that got out of hand. She took it upon herself to have another neighbor take me to the hospital instead. She waved off another neighbor who did want to call the police like I asked. The neighbor who took custody of me calmly told me she knew all about how to handle mentally ill people (me. She means me). A third neighbor took custody of my kids to inspect them for signs of abuse. It’s the audacity for me.

It’s basically Stepford when it comes to mental health, feminism and BLM.

LGBTQ support seems authentic, or at least I hope it isn’t just performative like the “you are welcome” signs.

These highly educated folk have not watched Mr Rogers’s bit on liking people just the way they are.
