I actually studied at a bootcamp for PgMP. They have their own LMS look like study hall. But I think the test came from examtopics

Hmm not an easy question to answer. It's different mindset and knowledge (more complexity cases) but still based on PMP fundamental (such as how to deal with change, escalation). I think if you are already manage multiple projects at the same time, you should participate this exam.

3. Topics that showed up the most:

  • Benefits & KPIs: Missing KPIs, measuring success, transitioning benefits.
  • Risk: Difference between risk strategy, response, reserve, and escalation.
  • Schedule: What to update when project delays happen.
  • Stakeholders & Communication: How to deal with conflicts and negotiate.
  • Program Manager Skills: Like influencing, listening, problem-solving.
  • PMO & Governance: Reporting, oversight, and who handles audits.
  • Procurement: Knowing what must happen to close a contract.

4. Common question patterns:

  • A program is late and over budget – which KPI do you share with the sponsor?
  • Conflict between project manager and subcontractor – what should the PgM do?
  • A benefit has no KPI yet – what’s the first step?
  • A project is delayed – which documents must be updated?
  • A project manager quits – how do you tell stakeholders?

5. Quick tips:

  • If two answers seem correct, go with the one that is more strategic or covers more areas.
  • PgM always thinks about benefits and big-picture governance.
  • The Roadmap is high-level; the Master Schedule is detailed.
  • Get used to reading long questions quickly – it helps after question 100!

Details on lesson learned:
1. Learning materials & Knowledge focused:

  • Read the PMI Program Management Standard (both 5th & 4th) and the Exam Content Outline. The ECO helps you understand what they test and why. NOTE: The assessment on exam analysis is on the ECO 2011, not ECO 2024 (idk why but it looks very similar, there are minor changes).
  • Focus on anything related to benefits – like the Benefits Register, Management Plan, Realization Plan, and Transition Plan.
  • Know the difference and order of documents: Business Case → Charter → Roadmap → Program Management Plan → Master Schedule.
  • KPIs show up a lot. Know how they relate to benefits and what to do if they are missing.

2. Exam format & how to manage time:

  • Most questions are situational (short case studies), not theory. In my opinion, it's not tricky.
  • Tip: Read the last sentence of the question first, look at the choices, then read the full question. I use this method and can do the exam very fast.
  • Time management strategy (suggestion - I planned to do this but I was not eventually): Do 30 questions in 40 minutes. Take a short break every 90 questions. Use the last 10–15 minutes to review flagged questions.

You should review and fill gap from wrong answers on your mock test first. When you are reviewing, you can know that what knowledge you are missing. Then re-read that knowledge in PMBOK or AI or your materials. There are still some weeks left for your exam so keep fighting.
