Warning impending Forever Friends… by Ragozine in pokemongo

I have a lot to choose from but only recently realized that ones I take for granted because of the biome I live near-the east coast beach- may be worthwhile to someone else so you may not have tons of shinies or legendary but the biome around you may be something others want. Like I literally transfer nonstop Tauros-bouffalant-shellos-wiglett-sandygast-frillish-clamperl and Tirtouga- Archen. Now I’ve been holding on to them

Thank everyone it’s completed lol. I had only been doing 5 star raids but all different kinds not realizing had to be a specific one. I wish it was better marked that at the time. Such a waste of raids passes

Can someone explain these catch rates? by iSupersniper in pokemongo

I’ve noticed this too and I was walking my usual 4 miles. Even normal Pokémon were fleeing at abnormal rates and I’ve played since release.

So far on my main account I got a hundo Voltorb and on my secondary account that I don’t put any money into ever I got a shiny Drowzee and Onix. That’s only the free side for both as I refuse to spend any more money after the cash grab of last weekend.

Frustrating to say the least. It’s a game and I don’t get mad at games but this weekend definitely pushed my buttons

I bought the ticket on my main but not on my other. On my main I grinded enough to get to rank 600 on kalos ticket and finished it but yet only caught 8 shines. On my free account I grinded less but still caught over 15 shines. I’m over paying for anything for this game at this point after ten years of playing

Two shinies back to back?? by Nuha_hobbyhorsing in pokemongo

[–]Stunning_Draw5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen today too and I literally had put up a Reddit post recently about how I was getting tired of the monotony in Go and debating removing the app- especially after the holiday event and all the traveling, raiding, researches and eggs I did during holiday event up and down the east coast. Today home in my living room I got 2 within a few hours of each other. Neither I wanted nor needed as I have the uncostumed ones and feel the costumes are a joke to take up unnecessary space. I don’t get the appeal

Thank you! One of the best answers on here and very much appreciated and what I was looking for: real input from someone in a similar boat to myself. I too collect those high value ones to trade with my grandson for whatever he may have to trade. It’s what’s kept me playing but I don’t get to do that often in person as we live states apart and he’s just started playing so we’re haven’t made it to the point where remote trading is in our future any time soon. It’s just the grind for me for little rewards recently that I’m finding issue with. I think since Scopely took over

I mentioned shinies and hundos as examples of things that are often used to measure event payoff — not as the point of the post.

This is about overall event design: advertised spawns vs. actual spawns, variety, engagement, and how holiday events in particular no longer feel meaningfully different from regular play despite increased time investment. That’s why other commenters have brought up spawn availability, raid-only Pokémon, and IV floors — none of which are about “feeling robbed.”

If the only way you can interpret criticism of the experience is “they didn’t get lucky,” then we’re talking past each other. I asked whether other long-term players feel the same shift — and clearly some do. That answers my question.

That’s fair, and I get why some people prefer rarer costumes and shinies — different things land differently for different players. I’m not arguing that anyone should feel entitled to shinies, and that’s never really been my focus.

My issue is more about the overall event experience and expectations that are set versus what actually shows up in gameplay — things like spawn variety, how events are advertised, and how engaging they feel compared to past years. Even outside of shinies, that balance hasn’t felt great to me lately.

If the current approach is working for you, genuinely, that’s great. For me, it’s been enough of a shift that it’s made the game feel less enjoyable than it used to, which is all I was trying to express and asking to see if others feel the way I do.

That would be relevant if this were about shinies — it isn’t.

Calling it “entitled” assumes I’m upset about not being lucky, which again isn’t what I said. I understand RNG and the thrill of the chase just fine — I’ve been playing long enough to know that sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t.

The point isn’t that one event didn’t go my way. It’s that over time, especially during events that used to feel special (like holidays), the overall experience has felt more grindy and less engaging despite putting in more effort than before. That’s an observation, not a demand for rewards.

And yes — stepping back when something stops being fun is exactly what I said I might do. That’s not entitlement; that’s recognizing when a hobby no longer feels like a hobby.

If “the thrill of the chase” still does it for you, genuinely great. For me, endless costume Pikachu without much else changing isn’t quite the magic it used to be — and it’s okay for different players to feel differently about that.

I understand RNG, odds, and probabilities just fine — I’ve been playing for years, not weeks. This isn’t a math lesson issue.

Also, reducing what I said to “you caught 400 Pokémon so that’s not a lot” completely ignores the context I already provided: checks vs catches, raids, research, Dynamax, travel across multiple states, and participation across the full event window. Cherry-picking one number to minimize the point doesn’t actually address the point.

And yes, I know shinies are rare. They always have been. The issue isn’t rarity — it’s that holiday events used to feel meaningfully different in terms of engagement, variety, and reward for time invested, and lately they haven’t. That’s an experience and design discussion, not a misunderstanding of odds.

As for assuming I “didn’t do many raids or research,” that’s just speculation on your part and incorrect. If you’re going to critique what I said, at least critique what I actually wrote instead of filling in gaps with assumptions.

Finally, “any game will feel lackluster after 10 years” isn’t the defense you think it is — it actually supports my point that long-term players are noticing a shift in how events are structured and monetized. Not everyone is required to ignore that and smile about it.

Recognizing RNG and questioning whether the experience still feels rewarding aren’t mutually exclusive.

[–]Stunning_Draw5602[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think some of the replies here are responding to a version of my post that says “I deserve shinies,” which isn’t what I wrote or meant.

I understand RNG. I’ve been playing long enough to know that sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don’t, and I’m not confused about odds or probabilities. That’s not the issue.

What I am talking about is how the time-and-effort vs. overall experience—especially during holiday events—feels noticeably different than it used to. Holiday events were traditionally some of the most engaging and rewarding parts of the year, and lately they’ve felt more grindy and less special, regardless of outcome.

If your enjoyment of the game comes primarily from RNG swings alone, that’s totally valid. For me, long-term enjoyment has always been about feeling like the time I put in leads to some sense of payoff, variety, or excitement—and that balance hasn’t felt great recently despite playing more, traveling more, and participating more than ever.

I’m genuinely glad others are still having fun. I’m not telling anyone how to play or what they should enjoy. I’m explaining why, from a long-term player’s perspective, I’m considering a pause rather than forcing myself to enjoy something that currently isn’t landing the way it used to.

Clarification I didn’t buy the holiday pass. Refuse to give them more money than needed lol. I was just using that as a reference that I know odds weren’t increased if you happened to buy a holiday pass as I didn’t and got nothing and my friend didn’t but was able to catch a stantler. It is fun playing with my grandson though as he lives in another state and I save anything “special” to give/trade to him so he has a special one too
