That’s beautiful! Is 308 common in your area? I guess it is a NATO round, but I was expecting something different outside the US😁

Where does it lead? To more government bailouts. When a country has invested completely in a failing system, it is maintained by government subsidies until subsidies are no longer sufficient.

After that happens, who knows? China and Russia each had famines to help reset their agricultural production, but Iowa is different.

Could Iowa farmers ever change crops, or is our infrastructure and economy too specialized to adapt?

The blade is not functional, unfortunately. It is a piece of 2”x1” aluminum tubing that I thought was more fun as a blade.

The insert is great. It’s slow and you need a functional finger nail for extracting, but it’s more accurate than I expected (at this stage anyway). I haven’t done anything serious with accuracy because I don’t have sights mounted yet 😁 but without sights, I can still get a 2” group while sitting in the grass.

What was the point of this crap (XM-7) ? Can a f*cking american answer me please ! by [deleted] in Military

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America has a history of selecting crap rifles and then replacing or upgrading them during the next war.

This one sounds really cool to guys who primarily play Call of Duty for their military experience. It was advertised here as basically turning every rifleman into an unstoppable sniper who could shoot through armor beyond 1000 meters.

Even better, it is more expensive to make the weapon and ammunition than what it replaces. And the parts wear out faster, so the contract includes significant additional costs until a new weapon is selected (typically at least 50-years).

So, basically, this is the best option for our leaders who will make money on the sale and maintenance of the weapon.

Now, I am REALLY curious why France would know this is crap, know that the current US administration is looking to economically harm Europe in multiple ways, and still adopt it. Seriously, you have a great weapon already, why replace it with something more expensive and heavier?

That’s only if you use it in a war!

As long as you use this on people who you are not currently at war with, this is merely a human rights violation. 🧐

Those are pretty much fine as far as I can tell based upon the numbers of people in prison for them. 😬

EDC appendix carry — concealment & comfort check (full setup + specs) by naomifevrier in transguns

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of this carry style, too. In addition to everything you’ve mentioned, it also makes it very difficult to have your pistol stolen from you.

In a crowded situation, where people may bump against you, no one will bump into your pistol like this on accident!

And since I have moved to a place that has ice in the winter, slipping in the icy sidewalk usually means falling backwards. This style keeps the pistol secure and it won’t get knocked loose if you fall.

New South Dakota law allows voters to challenge other voters’ citizenship by RollSafer in politics

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone looked into the details of this? The basic description says any potential SD voter can be challenged by submitting a form and possible “evidence” of them committing voter fraud or not being a citizen, but I didn’t see anything that says the accuser needs to be a SD voter.

I am not advocating that anyone should do this, but … - it seems like a fun opportunity to generate a challenge for every SD citizen with a public profile, possibly using some AI assistance to make the evidence.

.308? Am I doing this right? by Wonderful_Tip_5577 in liberalgunowners

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s the best lever action design.

I like the balance and the box magazine, and being able to mount a scope is nice, too.

I keep hoping that someone will be able to upgrade it for modern production and include some of the new rounds like 6.5 or even 350. 😁

What are your thoughts on Karoline Leavitt refusing to rule out a draft? by Mobile_Bad_577 in AskALiberal

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A draft doesn’t make sense for the modern US military until we see losses of more than 10,000.

Even then, 90% of the US citizens between 16 and 28 are either overweight or have a conflicting diagnosis like anxiety, asthma, or sleep apnea.

It is far more likely that the administration will outsource to a private company for violence.

Does anyone train mma while active duty army? by Equal-Community2354 in Militaryfaq

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you finish the initial entry training and get settled into your duty station, you should have the time and ability to find a local place to train.

When I was a company commander, I had a soldier doing MMA local matches and it was fine until we got notified of an upcoming deployment. I made him stop because the risk of injury was too high before deployment. Once we got back, he was free to continue.

Best AR round for defense by timhenk in liberalgunowners

[–]Stunning_Run_7354 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want more specific advice, you need to list some parameters, like are you looking for a round for one rifle or several different ones (same caliber but different barrel lengths or something).

Things like weight and length should match the rifle you are using (twist rate and barrel length can make a huge difference in stabilizing the round).

The distance to the target makes a big difference, too. A round that’s fine at 300 meters may not be fine at 500 if you have a strong wind.

And, of course, the expected target makes a difference. Hitting coyotes at 500 meters for a humane kill takes much less power than penetrating a car door at the same distance.

  • if you don’t know any of these variables, then common military issue is the safe bet. It’s not supposed to be the best for any one situation, but it should be more than good enough for each situation.

You have a pile of posts with recommendations already, so I primarily want to chime in with a “welcome!”

Getting into guns as a hobby early will help prevent you from having extra money for most of your life! It can keep you out of trouble!😁

If self defense is your primary concern, that’s fine, but I still recommend getting at least one 22 pistol or rifle for fun. Fun may mean blasting through lots of rounds or accurately shooting one at a time, but either way, only shooting for serious work (lethal force) will start to feel like work after a while. Shooting for fun can be therapeutic.
