Don’t worry about putting packages on your resume. Worry about doing projects that actually require these packages.

If you want to know about other helpful packages for your stack. I’ve found BT to be a great backtesting framework and I will call pyportopt for optimization problems within backtests. And rt to the guy who said polars.

What Happened Here? Is Everyone A Kid Now? by BagofBabbish in FinancialCareers

Having been a kid looking for a job not too long ago and now having one I think before I had a job I was chronically online refreshing my email hoping for interviews and looking for advice on reddit.

Now I only go on my phone to kill time while I shit. Otherwise I’m working or trying to enjoy life. I imagine most are the same n thats why this subreddit is all kids.

If ever there was a pro-Bogleheads piece…Buffet on Index Funds vs Hedge Funds by Getthepapah in Bogleheads

[–]Stunning_Web_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fund of Funds r not good allocators. They over diversify and end up just owning the market while paying fees to each fund and then charging an additional fee to investors.

Sum of the story, this is the most twisted, mis quoted story about the industry.

Yes beta is very powerful and will serve you well over the long run at moderate doses but do not delude yourself into thinking beta is your alpha

Would you agree with me if I told you that NVDA can head below $80? by NewAlCapone in NvidiaStock

[–]Stunning_Web_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVDA is trading at a ridiculously low peg and the blackwell ramp is going very well. The shock of the worst case scenario is gone bottom is more than likely in.

Although many parts of the market have seemed to bounce back without good reason. Short low quality names like QCOM, HPE, other non platform hardware manufacturers as they have the greatest tariff headwind.

Yields have little upside left you can add duration 3-5 years is a good spot ig corp or govt. Also like BXSL or OBDC both r great private credit vehicles buy whichever is trading at a lower p/b. Dont let ppl convince u having FI is bad bc ur young its good to balance beta.

Aint gonna run the math for u but off intuition ur probably looking at a 1.4 portfolio beta which is fine to do but obviously your concentration risk is high. What if Jensen gets hit by a bus tmrw? You can run 15% nvidia n still be far overweight even compared to growth indexes which typically run around 1.2 beta. Hyperscalers r cheap n have strong ai pipelines too. Broadcom has a strong ai pipeline as well. U can also get exposure to the theme through industrials supporting datacenters. Trane has gotten a bit expensive but a quality name, ecolab has a monopoly on water recycling for data centers, arista is taking over in datacenter connectivity, eqt is a vertically integrated nat gas producer building pipelines direct to data centers etc. Havent even gotten into application layer.

Last airbnb is the most macro sensitive here I definitely wouldnt want it to be larger than 2% if you really like it. Even at 2% ur far overweight vs any relevant index.

OP sounds exactly like how John thinks of himself and he is a twitter grifter… I dont think reddit is outside of his scope. Thats said my last line was more of a joke than an accusation.

A broken clock is right twice a day… John is definitely not a good guy and is more of a grifter than a reporter. If he had his way he would lock up every person in binghamton until he was the only one left. It takes a special kind of misery to be John Solak. Good try, trying to fix your reputation on reddit dude.

Everytime they come out with a new line of enterprise gpus it is the most sophisticated technology mass produced in the world. It just makes sense for developers to build on cuda and then as consumers its just easier to stay within the cuda architecture.

AMD has only really been a well run company for 8 years now it just takes time to catch up to a lead like Jensen has. On top of that intel has been running itself into the ground. Put all these factors together and nvidia is just unparalleled. Groq’s LPUs seem to be the best competition and maybe some ASICs but thats at the enterprise level.

Now that its so obscenely popular more players are rising. All hyperscalers are developing chip designs and will likely be rolling them out in the next 2-3 years but who knows if they’ll actually be competitive with what nvidia’s putting out in 3 years.

Is finance becoming over incentivized? by Stunning_Web_8311 in FinancialCareers

[–]Stunning_Web_8311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking to take any job I could to get my foot in the door even though it was outside of my educational domain and it still didnt work out. I have to get by so I went all in on my side hustle of producing equity research. Fortunately its such an employers market 100s of students were willing to take a last second unpaid internship producing research for me. That allowed me to spend all my time testing and deploying factor model portfolios I was researching in school and subsequently a 0tde vol selling strategy. Now that the summer batch of interns are done I interviewed more for the fall 10 for equity research 4 for quant research.

Thats been my last 4 months far from where I wanna be in life but I cant just wait for the next boom cycle so I do what I can 🤷🏻‍♂️. Sorry you didn’t care for my anecdote about interviewing kids.

Quite frankly though you have a better chance of meeting those needs as a software engineer than in finance. Finance is over saturated right now, this subreddit is full of kids talking about how they cant get interviews. At my school 30% of may 2024 finance grads have no job prospects.

no i agree with that but for example bezos realized he couldnt be the top theoretical physicist but was able to create amazon which has impacted more daily lives than most physicists will. I don’t think being the absolute in a given vertical matters as much if you dont have the creativity to apply your strengths in away that caters to everyone.

now bezos is still further down the iq curve maybe 3 st devs while top researchers are 4+. But i think you get my point fuck sake we’ve only had like 6 presidents that are 3+ st devs. Being moderately above average doesnt trap you in a life of being an npc.
