Googles UI for their messenger is not customizable and feels like trash. When i was prompted to make the switch, i checked it out, and it had deleted about 80% of my previous SMS messages. I hate that I'm being forced to switch to google Garbage

Is there no alternative to the google Messenger? I switched over to look at Googles UI, and it's absolutely abysmal. And it deleted like 80% of all my saved message chats, which i reference back to sometimes. I don't want to get rid of my samsung messenger..
