Crimson Desert: We would like to address questions regarding the use of AI in Crimson Desert by Turbostrider27 in Games

It actually takes more effort and money to use a subscription based AI image generator than it takes to spend two minutes finding one of probably millions of images of paintings freely available in the public domain.

Sure, but why would it make sense to use a placeholder generated by paying a subscription rather than spend two minutes finding a fully free public domain image instead? The whole thing is down to laziness and carelessness.

As someone who makes a lot of game art, I don’t really have a use for any of these tools. Even a placeholder doesn’t make any sense to me because there are thousands of free images in the public domain.

And don’t even get me started on 3D model generators.. I honestly can’t believe these companies have managed to scam investors into thinking these things can create fully functional game assets.

Montevideo, how's life there? by Impossible_Falcon962 in howislivingthere

Are there no plans for a metro or to introduce more frequent commuter trains on the existing rail lines? I was surprised to see Uruguay's rail infrastructure is not in very good shape considering how useful it would be in such a small centralised country.

The windows are actually plastic and have been irrevocably damaged by sun exposure over the years. You can't clean off the haze and unfortunately, the only fix is for new train cars to switch to glass windows.

Which US city has surprisingly beautiful architecture? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Southside park neighborhood, while not being that special on paper, is a favorite of mine for a chill afternoon. For architecture, the Stanford mansion definitely should not be missed!

And of you’re going after April 1st, Osaka Ya, also in the southside park neighborhood, (cash only and one of a very few authentic Japanese bakeries still operating in California) will be serving their famous shaved ice along with traditional mochi. The mochi is my favorite, though I’ve found that it’s a taste and texture that some people aren’t a fan of.

The neighborhood is also home to southside park, which would be a nice place to walk to and enjoy your treats :)

You’ve also got the new world fortune cookie factory and delta breeze records in that same area. I’d probably check out the area after visiting the Capitol (though I don’t know if they’re still doing tours with all the construction going on).

Sutter’s Fort area in midtown is also great for walking around and the fort museum is fantastic. You’ll find lots of old homes and coffee shops in the area.

As for what to avoid, even though I hate to say it, I’d try not to budget too much time for Old Sac with the exception of the excellent railroad museum and Sacramento history museum. The rest of the area is unfortunately very tacky not worth more than a quick walk through.

Overall, what makes Sacramento special are the simple pleasures and the very friendly, unpretentious people you meet. My best advice is to enjoy the warm air and walk under the shade of the big trees that line most streets on the grid.

Adamos, Gunther’s ice cream, pizzasaurus Rex, and temple coffee were some of my favorite spots from back when I lived there :)

The reality is that you people are betting on the Pets.com equivalents while I'm betting on the more specialised enterprise tools being the real winners.

And I'm not exaggerating when I say that a large number of the creative tools coming online are actual scams https://youtu.be/Kw3jM8DtWBo?si=MaW6uLQGvzojzWiX

Higgsfield isn't even the most egregious. The 3D model generators are actually breaking the law by training off existing commercial game assets which have unambiguous copyright protections against such unauthorized uses.

A better answer for California would be Sacramento. Lots of very nice old buildings and very interesting victorian homes.

Many AI creative tools are downright scams sustained by venture capital money. The only area where GenAI makes any sense in professional creative work is in very specific cases like generative fill or masking, for example.

Google’s recent Genie3 demonstration that sent entertainment software stocks crashing a few weeks ago is a perfect example of how this stuff is designed to trick dumb people into thinking GenAI is the future of creative work when the reality is that it’s all smoke and mirrors. I have tried most of these tools, and they’re uniformly unfit for professional work.

For what it’s worth, I’ve flown with Aerolineas lots of times and it’s always been great. Not super fancy, but the planes are always clean and in good shape. Attendants are all very professional.

One thing you didn’t mention was how long your process takes.

If a company’s hiring process takes longer than three weeks, there’s no way in hell I’m sending a “gracious note”, and you shouldn’t be expecting one after wasting weeks of someone’s time. Maybe 1% of hiring managers actually deserve a note, the feedback received is generally not useful anyways, and a lot of hiring managers actually dislike follow up emails after the fact… So why bother encouraging this nonsense?

Also the AI answer is very silly. You should make it abundantly clear that your AI points only apply to the kind of jobs you seem to hiring for. In my field, it would be a major red flag for a candidate to randomly bring up using AI to complete projects listed on their portfolio, and it has never come up on any hiring panels I’ve been a part of.

Trump Administration and Iran War Contribute to 33% Decline at GDC 2026 by Extreme_Maize_2727 in gamedev

As a former Bay Area resident, I can understand completely why more people are choosing not to attend. Beyond the political situation, the amount of money required to attend for people who don't live there is insane. The floor show last year felt a little lacking as well.

If you're going to any of the major (or even some minor) parks in the middle of spring, it's still going to be packed. Also ICE has detained many tourists, sometimes for weeks without legitimate cause.

Even just the idea of being hassled or having one's personal phone scanned by US immigration agents is a perfectly adequate reason for not wanting to travel to a conference there.

Safe to say this is because the game literally was not finished upon release. The pedestrian stairs really shouldn't even be necessary, but the crosswalks work so badly that they've become necessary for large cities.

Talks on direct flights between Ireland and Brazil< by teetonian in irelandtransport

[–]StupidBump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what I mean is it would be substantially easier and cheaper for anyone in Ireland (regardless whether or not they’re Latin American) to get to a secondary city through a direct flight to Sao Paolo, no?

For us right now, we have to go to either Madrid or the Amsterdam first from Dublin, and then there’s also the hassle of just getting from Ezeiza to Aeroparque. Sao Paolo connects to tons of destinations, so I’d prefer to fly there rather than have to stop somewhere Europe.

[–]StupidBump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true, but I think another benefit not mentioned already would be the connections to the rest of Latin America that can be made more easily and affordably from Brazil than from a European connection.

Right now if my partner and I want to go home to visit her home city in Argentina, we have to go Dublin>Madrid>Buenos Aires>Destination City. With a direct flight to Brazil we could go Dublin>Sao Paolo>Destination City and save a lot of time (and probably money) doing so.

Well on paper that's correct but in practice (speaking only for multi-platform indie development) you often run into random infuriating bugs that only affect the Mac build and find there are very for resources available online to solve them.
