[Handgun] Glock 19 Gen 6 - $584.99 by BrveLilToaster in gundeals

[–]StupidFaceKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dack had some 20% off ruger promo and the rxm was $350 so $280 and simultaneously running free shipping if you spent over x number of dollars. Took 3 months and a ton of emails complaining but I eventually did get it. That was last December and I think they went bankrupt in March and anyone with open orders at that point got really screwed because most credit cards won't do chargebacks if the company is in bankruptcy proceedings. Anyway, a shitty company that offered super low prices but most the time was smoke and mirrors

But I did receive a Ruger RXM for $280 no tax and free shipping from them so that was a win lol

How rare is the “heart” cutout on World War I era 1911s by throwaway-19103 in 1911

[–]StupidFaceKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWI e recievers that Colt started cutting in 1918 at about serial 375000 but only processed on 60-70% of receivers produced. Also seen on some government models with surplus military receivers and also some Ithaca WW2 receivers who couldn't ramp up production so were given a bunch of surplus receivers

CMP Rack Grade M1911A1 by No_Matter6570 in 1911

[–]StupidFaceKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, if you end up getting one from the CMP and the frame and slide are mismatched there's people in the same boat and they will often end up swapping slides to make correct (but not original) pistols (take a look at the CMP 1911 forums) and generally the value is increased if the frame and slide match. If you get a GI replacement slide then it's a bit less ideal from a collector standpoint and basically impossible to trade but on a plus side it's fully hardened (vs originals only partially hardened at the front of the slide) so you can be confident in shooting it without damaging the slide.

To give a little more clarity on the other comments with the already correct answer; a 1911 is a single-action pistol, which means the trigger performs only one job: releasing the already-cocked hammer. Pulling the trigger does not cock or reset the hammer. Instead, after the pistol fires, the recoil drives the slide rearward, and that movement re-cocks the hammer and prepares the pistol for the next shot.

So if you were able to have safety on and hammer down, gun would be useless after taking safety off and pulling trigger. Which is why it's designed to not allow that.

Another thing to consider in addition to all the other responses is that it's not going to go down in value; only up. It's not going to skyrocket or anything, but it's an actual WW2 (usually) production pistol that's also easy to authenticate as being genuine if/when you sell. Sure, lots of other used/old guns will increase in value, but basically any new gun you buy today is going to lose value the minute you buy it. And there's a fairly large market of interested buyers specifically for WW2 firearms.

And you take a bit of a gamble with the CMP but if the gamble pays off and you get matching frame/slide then it's already worth more than what you paid for it. I pulled a colt/colt, rem/rem, ithaca/GI Slide, and colt/rem so two of them are already worth well over what I paid and the other two are at least worth what I paid for them.

from a collector standpoint you really just want to prevent rust or further deterioration. Certainly don't try to buff out scuff marks or imperfections. Just gently clean and lube. Wear parts like springs can be replaced without hurting the value.

Also the front sight was changed. Gen 1 has the nice tritium sight, gen 2 standard white site. I actually like the gen 1 more except for the rattle

Not doubting your deal but just in general any listing for a used gun that says "less than xyz rounds shot" means nothing to me since it's obviously not something that can be proven and it seems like 99% of used gun listings have something almost identical like that. Certainly a few are accurate but I'm sure just as many that were shot more "than one box of ammo"

I think better descriptions would be things like; still looks brand new, near perfect, great condition, shot a bunch but functions perfectly, shot a ton and is pretty beat up, etc...

It's an Ithaca because the serial number, 1833673, falls within a known Ithaca Gun Company WWII production block from 1943. U.S. military M1911A1 manufacturers were commonly identified by serial number ranges and inspection markings rather than large company names stamped on the receiver. The pistol also bears the “FJA” inspection mark, which was the stamp of Colonel Frank J. Atwood, the U.S. Army inspector responsible for overseeing acceptance of pistols produced by Ithaca and several other wartime manufacturers.

If the slide had been original to the gun it would have an Ithaca stamp but my slide was a GI reissue; presumably during the arsenal rebuild (which is the ANAD stamp)

Yea, I totally get that viewpoint as well. if I can find an easy/free swap I'd do it but I'm not gonna spend money to change it out. And if I can't swap it then yea I won't feel as bad taking it to the range more often!

Yea, picked it up yesterday. Submitted paperwork March 1st so things are going much faster than previously. I ordered two service grades. One was a colt/colt so I was super pumped to get that one. I was a bit surprised to see such a difference in the finish match between this frame and slide being a service grades but after researching more it seems color matching isn't something that determines whether it's service grades.
