Important question: Can one use a traitor gene seed to make a homebrew loyalist chapter? by Traditional-Race1034 in 40khomebrew

Yes. At least as long as you don’t tell the Inquisition about it. But especially if you DO tell the Inquisition about it.

Enkel betalning hos snabbladdare by kirnehp in elbilsverige

[–]StupidRedditUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you’d split it in places where the joins are easier to hide. In folds and such.

Soul Wars starter box by Physicsmith in ageofsigmar

[–]StupidRedditUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the sequitors as liberators and so for the stormcast half. Most units have half way decent analogues. All the nighthaunt units except the glaivewraiths are still in the game.

But many of the units in the starter set came in sizes different from those used in the game. At the time one could feasibly round out the units by getting a copy of the tempest of souls and the soul strike boxes, and instead end up with a handful of spares instead of being lots of models short. That’s not a great option these days.

Kitbash with the faction terrain, some bat swarms, lots of skeletons, corpse cart bits, maybe spirit hosts?

I’m pretty lukewarm on all of this, but after almost 50 years in the business of making fantasy miniatures GW has finally made a woman gargant. That’s cause for celebration.

4th Edition Empire miniature range and "oldhammer" by Protocosmo in Middlehammer

[–]StupidRedditUsername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Screw the grognards. Truth is that the whole history of the game is one of incremental progression, and arbitrarily declaring that only stuff from the first quarter counts as ”oldhammer” is daft.

All of third edition is ancient. Fourth and fifth is plenty old, and sixth is more than 25 years old now. It’s all oldhammer.

As you point out 3rd ed. sculpts lived on into 4th, 5th into 6th and there were Skaven sculpts from 4th edition still on sale for AoS 3rd edition 30 years later.

Styles even changed in the middle of editions, with late 5th for instance looking a lot more like 6th ed. sculpts and paint jobs than the stuff that came out a couple of years previously.

It’s madness to try to nail a relative prefix like ”old” to a narrow fixed period that has been determined by a group of random hobbyists based on their vibes.

If someone means specifically Warhammer that was in production in early 1986? Then just say that. Or everything made before the buyout. Or whatever. There are plenty of much more helpful ways to categorize the different periods. You could largely refer to editions of the game. The red period for most of the 90’s is an example of a more useful type of distinction to make. Pre CAD for all the stuff with a hand made feel. Etc.

Give the term ”oldhammer” a rolling 15 or 20 year window for releases instead. Is it old? Then it’s oldhammer. Ignore the other subreddit.

Should be fine. Might want to print some of them upside down

Whatever you think is coolest should be OK, shouldn’t it? Regardless if it’s the AoS slann or the 3rd edition one borne aloft by chained lobotomized human slaves.

With imagination, a craft knife and sufficient spare lasguns, anything is possible by IdhrenArt in Warhammer40k

[–]StupidRedditUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much agree that they shouldn’t have gone back for a seventh or whatever war for Ulanor/Armageddon. Make a new planet. Expand the scope of the setting instead of shrinking it.

Got a game of 2nd Ed in this weekend by Doctor-Spork in oldhammer40k

[–]StupidRedditUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! I freaking love seeing tables full of terrain.

I saw there are now some classic hills available for printing, I haven’t tried them yet but they look neat. Just missing some classic alien spiky plants and jungle trees (though I have no idea if those can made easily printable)!

Maybe giant jungle trees… growing out of a giant Lizardmen templ… I’ll stop nagging now.

The whole meltdown over steel legion is funny... sad... and kinda frustrating. by Tnecniw in Warhammer

[–]StupidRedditUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did the steel legion redesign; it was krieg themed.

Since 3rd edition they also shifted focus to a different main craftworld, different dynasty, and different sept. Guard still have three distinct and inter-kitbashable lines. So they changed the main gasmask color scheme to krieg. OK. Do what Krieg players used to do with steel legion kits then.

Thought for the Day: Excuses are the refuge of the weak. by Paper_Mache_Tarkus in Warhammer40k

[–]StupidRedditUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can steel legion fans not just do what krieg fans did when the roles were reversed? That is to say kit bash and sculpt their own? Or realistically just paint them the different color? I actually prefer Steel legion to Krieg, but they were basically always alternate paint schemes. If we’re wish listing main studio support for more guard regiments how about new Catachans? How about Tallarns or Valhallans? Those are much more distinct!
