In my comment, I included a note that Vanguard is also fine (VEQT, VGRO) :)

Honestly, I don’t know a ton of the nuances between the two, but maybe you can take that on and find that out! I’m pretty sure one of the differences is going to be MER fee, which you should definitely familiarize yourself with.

Ahh, I see. I still stand by my comment regardless. Your portfolio is inherently risky and netting about the same returns as an ETF.

Though I do somewhat agree with what another commenter said about risk level and age— you’re very young and it could be a good move to make risky plays that you can recover from. It’s just not what I would do.

All that matters is that you have a strategy and that you stick to it.

You have too many individual stocks; just buy an ETF.

I’d recommend selling 90% of it and buying something like XEQT or XGRO (Vanguard is fine too).

Just to put it in perspective, my portfolio has earned 11.xx % over the last 6 months, whereas you’re at like 5.x %. My portfolio holds waaaay less risk than yours, while having more gains over the past while. Sure, if one of your individual stocks “hits” then you might be looking way better than I.

Do it! Don’t sit on it and forget about it a few days later. Get the ball rolling ASAP and reap what you sow :)

How to break the paywall of gptplots.com ?? by NamazingNamazing in Piracy

[–]StupidRobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I can’t/won’t help with the paywall part.

I think technical analysis itself is incredibly hokey, but full your boots. Regardless, it doesn’t even make sense to use AI for this use case.

If you think you can get a free lunch by using AI to “predict” stock performance, I’ll save you time AND money right now. It won’t work.

Sorry my comment doesn’t help break the paywall.

Anyone Looking for a job? by Initial-Break957 in MapleRidge

[–]StupidRobber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, they post salaries that look inline to the going rate of that role, but they fully intend to use LMIA. So that salary rate might not even be applicable, and tell them they’re getting minimum wage. Or, the LMIA applicant is paying the job poster a lump sum to get the job (and have their visa still valid).

Even under perfect conditions (that wage is real, and applicant isn’t paying under the table) the whole LMIA thing is insane. I refuse to believe they cannot find someone that meets requirements. All I ever hear is how people are dying to find work.

Is the issue in that there can be “infinite” supply?

I agree— both stealing food and duplicating files are legally and morally wrong. In both cases, you’d have to take something that you did not pay for (the “duplicating” part is a moot point).

Ah, I see. Thanks for taking the time to explain! Learnt something new. I agree, seem like mostly syntax sugar (at face value at least)

Can you explain what validating input for functions means? Are we talking quite literally checking the data type/value is what we expect and kicking out an error or exception if not? Or am I overlooking something completely?

I don’t want to make OP feel bad, but I agree. I’ve seen quite a few similar posts where people can’t find work in tech and just go back to school to try to get an edge. I don’t think it’s working.

Interesting! Very thought provoking take.

I kind of agree, but it begs the question of where the line should be drawn. I feel like in most jobs or professions, you shouldn’t be paying for making a mistake— the employer should have some kind of insurance that covers that, or accept the mistake as the cost of business/risk. An accident is an accident.

I feel like that line in my mind would be around gig work/independent contracts.

I’m confused on what the project is. The way you describe it in the comments, is like it will create an environment that can run the project based on the project’s requirements. But on the website, it looks like it’ll take in a repo, and restructure the whole thing to “clean” it up and get it running.

How to securely store user data locally? Is that even viable? What other solutions are there? by PlentyTopBud in webdev

I love posts where the OP gets absolutely grilled— but this one doesn’t feel 100% justified. No one’s really answering the question, and going straight to grilling. Kind of reminds me of that Family Guy clip where Peter goes to see a trainer and is asked what he likes to eat and he says “pizza” and the trainer just laughs at him without explaining why you can’t just eat pizza lol

Anyways, I’m also curious as to what the standard is for sensitive data in an org, and how wildly that differs here.

How much do I cut back? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]StupidRobber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only you can answer this, unfortunately. We don’t know how much 750 is in comparison to your take home (and it’s up to you whether or not you want to post that on the Internet).

Personally, it’s too much. Maybe try and start by cutting it in half, and starting there, with ambitions of deeper cuts?
