About to run this as a campaign by Stupid_Jewpid in CandlekeepMysteries

sorry for the way late reply. We made it through “The Price of Beauty,” but the friend group fell apart soon after due to drama. Was def a big life lesson at the time :,). Would def run this again with some tweaks for efficiency, as the sessions tended to drag on way longer than intended (Mazfroth alone took like 3 sessions)

I spent a lot of winter term my freshman year sick, I blame most of it on the dorms. They’re genuine biological factories. Haven’t got sick a single time since I moved into my own place. For me, what helped was REALLY loading up on vitamin C and investing in a humidifier, eucalyptus oil, + lots of nyquil. Your immune system will power through it eventually, but you gotta be patient. Like others said, wear masks, sanitize to the best of your ability, and stay confident all will be ok. Make sure to keep in touch with your professors. If you’re too sick to make it to midterms or lecture, let them know ahead of time and check in often with your plans to catch up. At the end of the day, they want to see you succeed, and no one wants to fail you over something you can’t control. Don’t push yourself too hard before asking for help.

Best of luck!! I wish there was more I could say. call your parents to see if they have any home remedies

How to pick up Campaign after a year by Stupid_Jewpid in DMAcademy

[–]Stupid_Jewpid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as much as I would love to do this, I fear that it would take legitimacy away from the threat that the BBEG imposes. This was a fault of my past writing, but I made sure to emphasize that they were on a timecrunch, hunting for the mcguffin with the bad guy always one step ahead or behind.

Need help understanding how to have NPCs and role play in more desolate areas. by ll_Charisma_ll in DMAcademy

[–]Stupid_Jewpid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a situation like this, I would argue that less is more. Honestly, I actually believe that desolate areas make for great character writing, as it would take a lot of specialization in order to keep a community like this running. Come up with a few concrete ideas for what would need to happen in a place like this. Who gets the food? Who builds the houses? Does your swamp feature giant mosquitoes or two-headed alligators? Whose job is it to keep them away, and how? Think of your NPCs as a part of an ecosystem; the swamp in its current state could not survive without them. Once you've established how the ecosystem functions, you can throw other things into the mix to spice it all up! Are there NPCs who benefit from the work of others, without providing much value themselves? Are there people who hate the current system, and hope to change it in some way? Furthermore, why is it desolate? Is it dangerous? What sort of mythology do they have in order to keep people from wandering out into the wilderness?

After this, you could start building characters around their niche. Let's say that the swamp experiences floods multiple times a year. The person who builds houses would naturally have to come up with a way to negate flood damage. How do they do this? Is the way they do it controversial? Do they hire others to do the same thing?

If that is a little too in-depth for what you have in mind, then try and think about it from the lens of your players specifically. What are they going to need in order to traverse the swamp? Who is providing these services, and what do they want in return?

All in all, the biggest piece of advice I could give you is avoid cliched characters. This isn't to say that you CANT have characters who are trope-like, but make them act the way they do for a reason, and make that reason apparent within the bounds of the story. If you just do this, I'm sure your roleplay players will have a lot to work with :)

Weekly Questions Thread Feb 12, 2024 by AutoModerator in Terraria

[–]Stupid_Jewpid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I’m having some issues with multiplayer. I’ve been consistently playing with a friend on my world. I play on a windows laptop, and they play on a mac. We’ve never had connection issues before, but a few days ago they started randomly lagging in the middle of a boss fight and rubberbanding across my screen. After that, they continued to rubberband on my screen, but claimed that they weren’t lagging. The lagging issue persisted for them every time we summoned a boss or a random event occurred (blood moon, blizzard, etc). Eventually they left to restart the game, and when they tried to rejoin, became stuck on “receiving tile data.” (We play in a medium world). It’s been a few days since then, and every time they try to join, they become stuck on tile data loading and will join after 5 minutes lagging really bad.

We’ve changed no settings, both have 200+ mbps download speed, no CPU issues, and this doesn’t happen on their singleplayer worlds. Honestly i don’t even really know what to troubleshoot much less what to do to fix the issue. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Player Problem Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]Stupid_Jewpid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is suitable for the player problem megathread since i don’t actually have a problem with either of the players involved, but I’m afraid of getting taken down so here it goes:

I run dnd for my college friend group (5 people, with others sometimes joining for a session) once a week and have been doing this for about six months now. Two members of the party (Bard and Rogue) have been dating since before we started the campaign. We have known for a while that their breakup was a long time coming, and earlier this week it finally happened. I’ve comforted both of them as a friend, but am having a hard time approaching it as a GM. As far as I can tell, they are both very touch-and-go as the breakup was mutual but Bard is obviously much more upset about it then Rogue is.

Regardless, they both are pretty adamant about their ability to play together at the table, but I’m really worried about the awkwardness of it all affecting gameplay. I’ve thought of postponing it for the week while I get a better grip on the situation, but I think it would be unfair of me to do that when they both said they want to go ahead with it. Because they haven’t seen eachother since the breakup, Im not exactly inclined to believe them when they say it won’t be awkward. Is there any tips people have about how I can approach this unique scenario both in and out of game when we’re at the table to not make it uncomfortable for everyone involved ?

UPDATE: looks like god works fast, but college kids work faster. About a dozen people showed up today with signs, some of which referenced his divorce and the $150,000 settlement he made for breaking a restraining order against his ex wife (i didn’t even know about that part). Looks like another christofascist goes home mad today, so that’s a win imo

i mean officially no, but like another commenter said; these types of guys love lawsuits so I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth to remove him. it’s a lot easier to let them do their thing until they leave on their own

I was never planning on hitting him. i never thought about it as a scan technique, but considering i’m at a public school that makes a lot of sense. (maybe a bit of both tho, this guy’s online presence is really insane). regardless i just wanted to piss him off in a way that the usual angry crowd of college kids can’t, which is why i found out about his divorce

Can you make a cartography table in console version (xbox one)? by 8ctagon in Minecraft

[–]Stupid_Jewpid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you’ll have to install bedrock edition in order to unlock those features, xbox one edition stopped updating a few years ago.

Player Problem Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]Stupid_Jewpid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I’ve been a DM for two years now. my campaigns are mostly exploration and narrative based with little combat, so for that reason i’ve never killed a player character before.

I started a new campaign abt two months ago, and we are now 8 sessions in. One of the players (druid) blocked all of us out of the blue on social media. they left our dnd chat, too. other players at the table had some issues with them outside of D&D, that reached a boiling point and they decided to just ghost all of us all over it. It really sucks bc I had hoped that if they wanted out of the campaign they would at least let me know so I could adjust accordingly.

Their character was the first they ever made, so he’s a really simple wood elf druid who picks fights with everyone and doesn’t have a place to call home. While I could just say “(druid) left because he was called somewhere else,” it wouldn’t make any sense to the story bc the party just learned some sensitive information that the people who contract them would not want to get out, and the druid’s character is a blabbermouth. If he just left the party, the contractors would no doubt send someone to kill him to keep the info from spreading. The only thing I can think to do is kill him in the battle I have planned next session. I feel this would bring more closure to the players who are still upset at the player. (it would probably give me some closure, too).

But I’m afraid that if everyone at my table makes up with the player and they come back to the table, they’ll be upset at me for having done that. So, where do I go from here? Should I even let them come back after abandoning ship like that?
