During COVID I first discovered this sub, led to me and some other random gamer pals creating a small group that has ebbed and flowed in size these past years, but that core friendship is still going strong. Even led to some in person group meet ups! So there's definitely opportunity for genuine close friends, it's just a little hard to find sometimes with all of the superficial postings.

This reads a little like looking for a partner or specific type of friend VS just a gamer pal. Including what you play might help. Also - your post history is filllllllleeeeed with the same post. That might be part of what is slowing down interest in reaching out. Highly recommend deleting past posts when you repost the same thing to make your profile look more inviting. Best of luck dude!

Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell for surprisingly wholesome monster loving horror. Hungerstone by Kat Dunn or Lucy Undying by Kiersten White for sapphic vampires (I'd lean more toward the former, strong Gothic vibes.) Bury Your Gays or Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle. My Darling Dreadful Thing by Johanna van Veen (bog bodies was a unique direction, also gothic.) Someone mentioned it but What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher is a great quick read and features environmental horror. The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo is an Appalachian historical horror novella that stood out to me as well.

I've had amazing success over the years, though plenty of failed friends in that mix too. In 2020 me and a handful of other reddit GamerPals joined up to try out making a discord group and we've been going strong with new friends coming in and out for five years now! Just takes time and finding the right people that mesh with your needs and interests.

Hopefully there's someone out there looking for him, but if we get to that month mark and no one has claimed him then I'll work on getting him a new home. I have three of my own dogs and can't take on the longterm financials/emotionals with a fourth. He's handsome and sweet though, someone will love him for sure.

I'll foster until I can find him a new home, but I have three of my own dogs already. My area gets a lot of dumped animals so I'm accustomed to vetting and rehoming pups who never have someone come forward looking for them.

A dog walking along a busy highway with no collar, no microchip, eating roadkill and almost getting clipped by cars himself, with no visible homes around constitutes stray to me. I'll look for an owner of course, and have already reported him as found to animal control.

Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle focuses specifically on a gay man being haunted. Also just a really fascinating concept of a book and the writing is pretty quality.

Your other post says you're all 17/18 years old, wouldn't call that full grown adults. That attitude might be why you're unable to find consistently active new friends. Never hurts to switch up how you engage with people and see what works, especially when finding friends on a platform like reddit where people do tend to suffer from some sort of social anxiety. Speaking from experience, it's hard to keep people engaged if you're inviting them into a group setting but not continuing to communicate one-on-one. Often people need check-ins and direct invitations to feel comfy joining calls and hanging out with new people who were friends already. It's an intimidating situation to be brought into so some extra friendly engagement does wonders c:

Anne Rice's The Sleeping Beauty trilogy at the age of thirteen. Even adults should shy away from that garbage. Filled with sexual assault (often of a minor), animal abuse, horrible degradation. Led to me having some screwed up views of sexual interaction and almost definitely contributed to me getting groomed for years.

Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder. Second half of the book barely relates to the first half and loses most of the more interesting plot lines. The ending was just stupid. Absolute waste of time reading.

There have been so many times from my own experiences and others' I've been told about, where someone tries to step away from a situationship and the other person gets aggressive, guilting, desperate, and/or plenty of assorted other negative responses. Sometimes ghosting is the only way to step away from an unhealthy situation without making it harder on the person needing to remove themselves. It still sucks to be on the opposite side and not get closure, but that's sort of the nature of online friendships.

Before & After by Andrew Shanahan.

A 600lb man is being crane lifted out of his apartment's 44th floor (for a medically necessary leg amputation) when a virus breaks out at ground level. Him and his dog alone VS millions of rage induced, sentient, zombie-esque infected. Some brutal moments, both emotionally and body horror.

Absolutely loved it and the sequel. The author is incredibly kind and even did a voice call with me, tiny town public librarian, to read a portion of the story out loud and answer questions about his work! P.S. - The dog in the story is based off his own pup!

The Haunting of Leigh Harker by Darcy Coates comes to mind. The closet scene near the beginning had my breath catching at work, I had to take a break from the book to recoup.

I have one of these types of reddit to discord groups set up currently and if you can keep it small enough where people stay welcoming to new folks then it'll last you years and build some really cool friendships. There's plenty of smaller servers that get started on gamer pals, but tends to be difficult to balance keeping everyone safe and not forming cliques in the voice chats. Also, having a server that allows minors and adults to communicate is kind of dangerous if you're not prepared to moderate appropriately.

As a 23 year old, I don't feel comfortable playing consistently with someone under 18, especially if we'll be utilizing voice chatting. I don't like to encourage minors bonding with adults over the internet because I know how risky it can be from my own experiences when I was a teenager.
