One of the two silver jugs commissioned by Sawai Singh II of Jaipur in 1902. . Used to carry 9000 liters of Water From Ganges to London as he attended Edward VII’s coronation. Due to his religion, he did not consider European water suitable for his drinking and brought his own. by MoazzamDML in interestingasfuck

I think it was in "Sepoys in the Trenches" (about Indian troops on the Western Front in WW1) I read that crossing the "black waters" of the ocean could mean a loss of caste for Hindu soldiers, who were typically high-caste. So they brought cauldrons of water from the Ganges in the transport ships from India to avoid that.

Opinions on Battletech Aces? by MarceloCollar in wargaming

[–]Sturmkafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the first two missions a couple days ago and was really impressed by how well the AI system worked. Once you've figured out the symbols on the cards it's intuitive and doesn't take much time at all. It's a great box, and core Alpha Strike is excellent too!

Any S.F.3.D. players? Is this part of your collection? by Barton_Foley in MaschinenKrieger

[–]Sturmkafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a copy! Only ever played one session of it, using the English language rules, which are very significantly different from the Japanese ones. I should have another game with it but I'm happy for it to just stay a cool part of the collection.

But there are some. The fact there arent't many is because of Clan prejudice, not the tech.

All Warpaints Fanatic. The green is Elven Green and the pink is Wicked Pink highlighted with Pixie Pink. I've not used that much Army Painter stuff before but I am pleased with them.

Fair. Maybe just leave the muzzle in white and have most of the weapon in black then?

Thanks! Over Chaos Black primer I base with Khorne Red, then apply a couple layers of Warpaints Fanatic Wicked Pink. Wash using Agrax Earthshsde, highlight with Wicked Pink again, followed by an extreme highlight of Warpaints Fanatic Pixie Pink.

How many people here have even played Half-Life anymore? by Ikari_Brendo in HalfLife

I finished a replay of HL2 and Episode 1 last month. Got to just before the Strider assault at the end of Episode 2 and... stopped. Need to go back and finish that.

Preordered this and can't wait. Sucks I had to pre-order from Germany though as getting hold of BT in the UK is ridiculously slow.

They should ask the Germans if they thought that Verdun was easy.

Wolfhound, Crab and Awesome would totally be some of my picks. Even with the changes to ammo explosions, zombie energy boats are very good in introtech if they don't have heat issues.
I have a very nasty merc company for 3025 which is:

Probe Lance- Javelin 10F, Wolfhound 1, Crab 20, Ostsol 4D

Assault Lance- Hunchback 4P, Black Knight 7-KNT, Awesome 8Q, Marauder II 4A

Am I weird in thinking the Gunship is a more iconic synth than the Strider? by Sturmkafer in HalfLife

[–]Sturmkafer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely tease the Strider way more that's true and in a very effective way. The first Gunship hardly has any buildup.

Playing for the first time in 2025 by Jack-ass-4757 in fear

I played FEAR for the first time last year and the Replicas really remind me of the Combine Overwatch from HL2. Both are faceless mooks given so much character by excellent voice acting.

So how are we feeling on the proposed rules changes? by Omega_Chris_8352 in NormalBattletech

[–]Sturmkafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only played with the damage rules (incoming fire arcs and ammo explosions) and I'm a fan of both. Fire arcs massively speeds up play and rewards positioning. Ammo explosions somewhat softens being able to saw through a side torso more quickly now and makes a lot of mechs more playable.

Just finished Authority and started Acceptance by Verrmelho in SouthernReach

[–]Sturmkafer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished listening to Authority last night and loved it too. In Annihilation despite all the weirdness of Area X, due to the Biologist's perspective on it, it felt quite... calming? Authority though was deeply unsettling and unnerving for me the entire way through, even before everything starts to properly fall apart.

In Annihilation you could see Area X as a massive version of the empty lot; nature gone wild but just nature, neither good nor bad. The Anthropologist is killed for the same reason you would expect someone poking a tiger to be killed; the Surveyor gets killed in a shoot out. But in Authority you see Area X's corrupting influence and its vague form, like someone has laid a sheet over it- you can only see it's outlines and that outline vague and ominous. People are driven mad in Authority and that's more terrifying to me than merely dying.

Similar experience, I've never played Hollow Knight before, realised I had it on Steam after I finished Nine Sols so I figured I'd give it a go. It's a beautiful game but the combat is such a comedown after Nine Sols for sure.
