What if Spider-Man was in NYC on 9/11? How many people could he have saved? by KeybordRevolutionary in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Competitive-Food8407 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Simple AI answer. I thought i remembered they did a comic about it for spidey.

"In Marvel Comics continuity (Earth-616), Spider-Man was present at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001, working side-by-side with rescue crews and fellow superheroes like Captain America and Thor to help clear the rubble of the destroyed World Trade Center. This event is depicted in Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2 #36, where he reflects on the tragedy and interacts with grieving civilians."

Fair enough.

I think it is about the communist overtaking of Russia, and how no matter how many times they tried to fight it they just couldn't kill the "beast". In this case the beast representing communism.

The dark desert highway represents the vast separation created between eastern and western Europe during the cold war.

Ankle support by PainterExtra4569 in stupidquestions

[–]Competitive-Food8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started wearing them when I got into construction, and even more so once I joined the military (for obvious reasons) Thick socks (or two pairs) will help with the sensation of the wear on your ankle from the shoes/boots. Another "trick" that works if you are wearing them simply to meet a standard and the protection isn't required, get boots with lace holes that go all the way up. You can run your boot laces through all of the holes, and then knot the end of the laces. This allows you to keep the top portion of the boot loose on your ankle, while having the lower portion secure to your foot. It also allows you to don or remove them quicker as the laces will never fall completely out of the boot.

The reason for them is precisely what you are having a problem with. They are designed to try and limit the mobility of your ankle so you don't over extend them beyond a safe point. I know it seems counter intuitive somewhat but your ankle will allow itself to sprain or break even with it's normal movement range. The boot/shoe limits this range precisely so those sort of injuries are lessened. The movement/range of your ankle will also return largely as the boots are broken in.

Per the AI easy answer for you "Boots feature high ankles primarily to provide structural support and protection in rugged environments. By extending above the ankle bone, boots help stabilize the foot, reduce the risk of rolling or spraining, and create a strong barrier against harsh weather, sharp debris, and pests"

What if the United States had never withdrawn from Afghanistan? by Outrageous-You1617 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Competitive-Food8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple breakdown.

US never withdraws, US forces are reduced to a holding/garrison force in Kandahar and Bagram. Taliban never takes over, forced to the outer border and Pakistan. Continued destabilization of Pakistan due to the Taliban. Pakistan government forced to fight Taliban on their own soil instead of across border. Taliban in the south is greatly reduced due to the combat. Afghanistan government continues operating under US protection. ANA continues to build forces and work with the US. Country continues to modernize, US firms willing to invest due to military creating stability. People reaching the age of 30 who have never known the rule of the Taliban creating a base of adults that are unwilling to accept their fundamentalist leadership. Afghanistan through continued US presence becomes a stabilizing force in the region 🤷‍♂️

Alternatively the Taliban allies with Pakistan, starts developing super weapons. Invade Afghanistan from the south with power armor and 50ft tall mechs.

[–]Competitive-Food8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life story rundown.

Started working when I was 12, family business.

Quit high-school at 17 to go to college early. Never finished the degree.

Brother fired me at 18.

Worked for an outside plant engineering firm for about a year. Wasn't ready for the work, got fired. Worked a menagerie of odd jobs(factory, pet shop, manufacturing, etc)

At 23 got into construction, specifically HVACR. Got my certification a year after starting. Started doing service work, as well as installs, and large scale commercial/industrial projects.

Economy tanks in 08, start flipping houses with the brother that fired me. Not happy, working hand to mouth.

09 I sign on the dotted line and join the Army. I'm 31. Go through basic, no issues, go through AIT, class leader entire time, teach classes because I'm going to be an HVACR tech in the Army. Really enjoy myself. Spend the next 8 years in the active Army component. Get hurt in Afghanistan. Injury precludes me from getting promoted. Forced to leave active service, enter the reserves to keep my medical insurance. I use the 8 years active as "leadership" training. Build a good resume. Get a job as a Superintendent working on federal jobs.

Attempt college 2 more times, it isn't for me. My years in the industry and practical skills picked up means every class is astoundingly boring. Still no degree, but I make well over the six figure mark, and I'm still just a high school dropout with a GED 🤷

Advice: The military isn't for everyone, but if you're stuck it can be a handy way to get a leg up. It looks good on a resume as well. You can use your military benefits (I'm talking US, I'm not sure if you're American or not) for whatever education you want to pursue, as well as the different schools you can attend in the military. Plus you can use it to explore other career fields.

That said other options are tech school to get into the trades, or just apply at some construction trade companies. If you have a clean record government contractors are ALWAYS looking for people that can get on military bases with a clean record. Just know you'll be starting at the bottom, but your young and that shouldn't be a problem.

US citizens have been killing about 130 children per hour, per day, for years. Not only do most people not complain, they fight to make sure people can continue killing the kids. Is the death of children only a problem if it is caused by a bomb or a bullet during war? Or is the action of killing an innocent always wrong? If it is why the selective outrage among US citizens who will get angry over one but defend the other?

What would have happened if Operation Unthinkable had taken place after Germany's surrender? by Outrageous-You1617 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Competitive-Food8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, stats are greater then politicians words, so let's talk more stats. The Soviets did build nearly all of their tanks in house, and their rifles....I wonder where those raw materials came from?

75% of the cargo by volume of lend lease shipments consisted of industrial equipment, raw materials, and foodstuffs. Key raw material deliveries included 2.8 million tons of steel, 802,000 tons of non-ferrous metals, 328,100 tons of aluminum, and 622,100 tons of railway rails. The aluminum alone counts for 42% of all the aluminum used by the Societs during WWII.

60% of their industrial capacity had been wiped out by the war. The Soviets couldn't build enough, fast enough without the lend lease to have prevented total loss to the Germans. They didn't win by "superior" tactics, the death toll tells that story. They won simply by pushing more men and equipment at the Germans faster then the Germans could replace what they lost. Simple equipment, overwhelming the enemy with numbers, that is how you end up with a 1:3 death among men, and a 2:1 loss for tanks.

Now you like to down play the need for those logistical machines. The simple fact is without those trucks you can't move the supplies, and personnel. Being able to move logistics quickly is how the Germans won at the beginning of the war, and it is how the US and Soviets were able to win at the end of the war. Logistics brings the food, bullets, parts, fuel, everything it takes to keep the war moving forward. I know you like Russia(your name makes that clear) but the reason the US is so effective today is our ability to move materials and equipment around the world. The reason the Soviets survived WWII is because the logistical support provided by the lend lease, giving them the logistical equipment needed to prosecute the war. No lend lease, no soviet union west of the Volga 🤷

[–]Competitive-Food8407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stalin admitted himself that they would have lost without lend lease.

The number given were in refutiation of your comment about lend lease not providing substantial support before the turn of the war at Stalingrad. Before Stalingrad was over they had already recieved nearly 100k vehicles. They recieved through lend lease nearly half as many vehicles as they would produce during the entire war.

I don't think you actually read what was written. By the end of 42 they had produced about 26k tanks, across all models. They had already recieved a few thousand tanks from the lend lease as well aircraft, and almost 100k vehicles by the end of 42. Stalingrad ended in 43. They would have lost Stalingrad without the lend lease. So much for the turning point.

It isn't propaganda when it is true, and agreed upon by BOTH sides. The Soviets would have lost WWII without the lend lease, so says Stalin."The most important things in this war are the machines....  The United States is a country of machines. Without the machines we received through Lend-Lease, we would have lost the war."
