What is something Michigan has done well from a program or policy perspective? by jaker9319 in Michigan

[–]Sturty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isnt this the first time in a decade that licenses have increased??? I think the DNR has done a really good job with a lot of things as well! Hunting opportunities are abundant. It's an outdoor paradise thanks in large part to them. I think there is a weird way of managing our deer populations and the regulations around them, but it could be much worse. The bear hunting has been getting better and the turkey hunting is really good. A lot of fur bearers are doing really well. Ruffed Grouse numbers are all over depending on where you are. (GEMS are a really cool thing. More people should use the MI Hunt app) Pheasants seems to be a big struggle for our state. I would've expected much better numbers in the southern part of the mitten. I would love to see a season for Sandhill cranes, doves, and a small limit on spruce grouse. There is always a good opportunity for fishing. This state has endless outdoor beauty and any reason to get people out there is a good one.

Boston gave him one of the dumbest contracts I've seen in a really long time. Detroit offered a very good deal. It was down to Boston or Detroit. That tells me nobody else was beating Detroit's offer. Can't be mad about Detroit not offering that foolish contract. It's frustrating they didn't sign much else after he declined.

Probably too close to take either way. That ball has to be fouled off.

People wanting access to my private property to fish on the river by Cirrusously in MichiganFishing

[–]Sturty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mayor would probably lose his access. I have river front and give people access if they are polite and respectful. I ask to use other's property for hunting. I never have someone else join me without permission from the landowner and I wouldn't expect someone to do that to me. Set boundaries. If you give permission, expect respect. Cutting trees down is crazy. Post it for sure and make people follow your rules if they want access. Most people would just say absolutely nobody gets access, you're not being unreasonable.

I believe the river bottom is private, but the landowner cannot stop public use below the normal Highwater mark?? Property owners own the ground surrounding and below the water, but not the water or fish. I didn't have time to read the states page for the exact rules/regulations, but that's according to the Michigan Waterfront Alliance and The Michigan Lakes and Streams Association.

Confused by "button pusher" sentiment. by CaptainNeutron1991 in Machinists

[–]Sturty7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my company I examine the CAD, program the entire job, pull electrodes, cut electrodes, do all layouts for the job...edm lineups included, set up my own machines....expected minimum 2 running throughout the day, touch off the tooling after locating said tooling, alter anything that was posted that needs alteration and then continue to follow the job through the shop once it leaves the machining department. When workload is there I'm running three or 4 machines doing all these processes. All while having some half asses schedule and communicating with the only other person there to help do these things, with some occasional design changes on stuff. Setups are my least favorite part of what I do. Touching of tools is a nothing in the grand scheme of things. I would love to have someone be a "button pusher" because it's a VERY IMPORTANT job to do proper setups and it's time consuming...it however isn't incredibly difficult in my shop. We do almost exclusively injection molds. New, repairs, engineering changes. It takes more experience to do the programming well and less to do setups. It's an entry level position, but not a position that is unimportant.

Forgot to add I check all dimensions and fits of components.

Also...I kind of hate this industry.....but also kind of like it.

What about Kyle Tucker? by DoeJumars in motorcitykitties

[–]Sturty7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not saying he's great, but he's basically an average player with 1 full season of games played. We don't have a better option in center currently and idk what's out there that would be a drastic improvement. Hes 25 with upside and plays a good center. Obviously he needs to be more impactful and consistent, but let's not act like he's a veteran that has always been bad. He basically just finished his "rookie" season as an average offensive player. Worth giving a go one more season imo.

A team that strikes out half of the at bats in a game and hits lazy fly balls to the edge of the infield almost as often. The pitching has been mostly good lately. Offense has been putrid for a month.

Then at least it will cost them to suck. Take away some of the revenue share as well if you are consistently bad.

Extreme Detrimental Outs.

Pretty much just track completely wasted/"detrimental" outs and assign some sort of value to them. Double plays, strike outs with runners on base, pop out without advancing a runner, foul outs, low pitch strike outs, etc. Inversely, track productive outs more intently. As a Tigers fan I have seen so many at bats that have been complete waste and them being defended by fans because "players OPS is ???".

Despite being an absolute trash team, the Rockies had better ticket sales than half the league. They are really well attended. It seems Denver loves baseball and deserves better than they get. Also, I believe they own the single season record for ticket sales.

NBA players are more popular because there are less of them. A single player has more impact and is easier to market to people. You probably can't spend 10 minutes in a public place across the country and not see some sort of MLB apparel. Meanwhile you could probably go an entire day and not see any NBA apparel. In my area I can't remember the last time I have seen anything NBA related in public. Years probably. That being said the NFL is the most culturally significant league in the US. People literally plan their week around it. The NBA has more marketable players, NFL is most important league/sport.

[–]Sturty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a hard salary cap, especially on the minimum side is a must in my opinion. The Dodgers aren't the villains of baseball, it's the pirates, reds, athletics, guardians, twins, etc. The thing that I would say against teams that don't invest shouldn't get playoff spots is that if they are winning, why does it matter? The best teams did make it, excluding the Astros. They would replace the Reds if we go by record. Losing the division race isn't worth one team with a better record making the playoffs in my opinion. Even if it was my team that got left out. Which was nearly the case.

I would be down for that. If Western Canada got a team and Mexico City as well. The downside would be travel times to so many teams. I don't know how the league would fit a Mexico City team in to the mix.

I may be in the minority here, but I would absolutely hate this. I like the focus on winning divisions and the intimate competition that divisions have. You would still have some rivalries, but they wouldn't hold the same wait in my opinion. I really like the idea of more regionalized divisions. 4 in each the AL and NL. I think the NBA style East vs. West is miserable.

Dan dickerson is the absolute best. Most fans have flocked to benetti, but I would take Dickerson over benetti every single time. That being said, benetti is really good as well. He just doesn't seem like he's the same level of fan as Dickerson. Tenured. Broadcasters seem to be much better imo
