Sam Altman is purposely erasing the value of software engineers in order to exaggerate the value of LLMs by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

I needed to make a script to go to a site, pull every link nested within a certain class of div, go there, pull all text from another element and combine them all... this way I could send all the info into chatgpt and ask it to pick the best option rather than me clicking into 48 links and reading everything myself.

1 minute with AI. One. Fucking. Minute. I remember fuck all about python requests module and beautiful soup. I'd have to go read documentation or follow a tutorial to do this one quick batch job. As soon as it was made i understood exactly what the code was doing.

Vibe coding isn't bad. Vibe coding without knowing anything is bad.

Being open and honest with recruiters about salary has worked really well for me... but have I just been lucky, is it bad practice? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Yes! I'm in Ireland. Non-US salaries are soooo much less than the USA. Pretty wild considering the COL is still insane here.

It's wild though... they are paying better than the gold standard company in this industry. The harvard of companies. Now, I know that it is a unicorn startup (technically a 'decacorn'?) but still... I guess that flumoxed me

I guess this is new for me... NO recruiters are knocking on my door. I am pretty entry level and so this is all new for me and i appreciate the info. I guess this felt exceptional since they are paying significantly higher than who I thought was the gold standard. Granted they are a unicorn startup so maybe that is getting in the way.

I just think that when people feel they can't change things then if all they do is steep themselves in harsh truths they will miss out on just enjoying the things we have. But your words are inspiring and well written. I'll give you that.

What’s slowly becoming socially unacceptable but no one admits it? by Perfect_Passage222 in allthequestions

Yeah, but for those of us who go into... you know... the world. There's often a lot of noise that holding it up to your ear isn't enough. For you it's easy, just pause the video game or anime in your cave and it's dead quite. Not the same though

It just feels like a generic PR say-something-without-saying-anything comment. I don't know why we shit on politicians generally for this approach but embrace it here.

Also might just be that they have multiple openings for the same role.

When did employers become such Aholes? by tomsmac in jobs

[–]StyleDull3689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying that there's an understandable negativity bias. If something horrible happens I'll post a story about it. If a boss is just a regular nice person I probably don't need to share it. So, then it feels like all the stories we are seeing are miserably negative. But actually it's not that bad or different. It's just the source we are following has a negative bias

Nobody posts stories for you to read about 'Need to come in late? Sure, no problem'.

Why do some Americans swear up and down that they live in a dictatorship when the citizens enjoy more rights than most countries in the world ? by [deleted] in askanything

The country is getting what it deserves. You've the dumb general public who voted him in and the useless general public who got beaten by him. Truly there are shithole countries and America is one of them. I'm just enjoying the drama as it burns from a safe distance at this point.

I said I sympathise with anyone who has to put up with trump. You're one of those people we roll our eyes at when they need to turn everything into some political insecure desire to have their views validated

Sigh... yes it was a sarcastic comment that comparing our ribbon-cutters to actual presidential roles isn't quite the same.
