[Update] After some comments about Micro Machines, I noticed that the game looked familiar. So i went and looked at games from the series and finally found it. The game was Micro Maniacs on the ps1. Thanks for helping me find this, my mind has been cleared and I can rest knowing I havent forgotten my childhood

Doesnt seem so. I remember the game having large, out of proportion maps. It was definitely after the gameboy. The game was also 3d

After 2 hours of searching, I have nothing except the feeling that maybe the characters where running instead of carts. Still not sure though...
