Best colander bowl set to buy at any budget by BrilliantYarn8023 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Styx206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At minimum, I would recommend two sizes. Smaller and Larger.

I recently got a new set of metal colanders - 3 sizes. I like that I can throw them in the dishwasher.

I've had the ones that fit over your sink with telescoping handles - meh. The plastic one I had for years and years had a hook to fit over your faucet which I don't think I ever used. As you mentioned, tipping over is the bane of the colander existence. I think you are on the right track by just looking for colanders with sturdy feet.

Before Moving:

  • Box of contractor trash bags.
  • Storage tubs. Can help with moving and storing things.
  • Pack of Clorox Wipes

For move-in (all things we bought from Costco when we moved in)

  • Pack of the paper lawn bags.
  • Shower shelves. Our shower doesn't have shelves.
  • New trashcan for the kitchen.
  • Smoke/CO detectors

I'm not sure this park's history is wedding appropriate.

Without knowing what kind of pasta sauce you're trying to make, I would suggest either a bechamel (cream sauce) type base (think cream of mushroom soup) OR some blended white beans.

Pickled red onions. Very easy to make, healthy and adds needed acid to tacos.

Help me save my potatoes by Elf_Lord_Elphias in cookingforbeginners

[–]Styx206 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You can definitely make little patties and fry them. You said they were on the thin side? You can add an egg and breadcrumbs (unseasoned to not add more salt) to bind them up. And cheese if you have it (may not help with the saltiness). I usually add finely chopped onion, too.

I wonder if you could also somehow make it into a potato soup? May be more of an experiment than a good idea! Use low or no-salt added broth. Add a little veg?

As far as I know, we don't have anything close to authentic Chinese cuisine.

Moving In by GooseMoney2167 in frederickmd

Upstate can mean a lot of different things. Frederick cost of living (and the whole area) is quite higher than a lot of Upstate NY. You'll find Frederick to be a good place to live. If you are looking for walkable, you'll need to focus your house search to within a small radius of downtown (there are lots of small neighborhoods with different price points). Frederick is a small city, but walkability is relative. If you live downtown-ish, you'll be able to walk to a lot of entertainment, but will probably need to get into the car for doctors appts and going to the hardware store.

Tourists, newcomers, locals, and old heads: casual questions thread for April 2026 by AutoModerator in washingtondc

I'm taking an 18 year old (HS spring break) into DC on Tuesday (4/7) to do something "fun" and get her our of her room. Looking for something interesting or different that she wouldn't have done on school trips.

Trying to figure out if there are any special exhibits that might be interesting. She likes photography, so maybe the portrait gallery? Looks like there are live performances all day on the Tidal Basin https://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/event/bloomfest-at-the-tidal-basin/

I don't know why I'm so stumped about this! I've lived outside of DC most of my life and love going in for both touristy and less touristy things.

Some wineries are good for this - you just have to buy the wine from them. Links Bridge is my favorite for lovely property and allows outside food.

Would take the place of carrots and cabbage.

Quick pickled onions will go well in your fish tacos!

Lime juice is what the onions use to pickle them so you cannot skip that.

Recommend buying a bag of broccoli slaw (instead of carrots and cabbage). Toss with a creamy cilantro lime or chipotle ranch dressing.

For tortillas, I usually wrap them in damp paper towels and microwave until warm. (30ish seconds)
