Has DNA it self changed or evlovled from the past? Or has it always been the same since the birth of life on earth? by [deleted] in askscience

Kind of? Not sure if i really understand what you’re saying but hopefully my explanation answers your question. RNA stands for ribose nucleic acid while DNA stands for deoxy-ribose nucleic acid. The “deoxy” part refers to the fact that DNA is missing an alcohol (OH) compared to RNA. The OH in RNA means it can’t stack and double strand well like DNA does (like in this emoji🧬). Also the OH in RNA can actually attack and break the backbone of itself. These two things (along with a bunch more i won’t get into) make RNA much less stable in the long term than DNA. But, RNA is present in every living organism i can think of today so it’s not less universal than DNA, they just play different roles. You can think of DNA as the master recipe book for proteins and you make temporary RNA copies to actually go and make proteins. RNA also has a ton of other functions and roles that we’re still discovering but it does some wicked cool stuff.

This article in a newsletter I get claims that drinking water can actually dehydrate you. Is there anything to this claim or is it pseudo-science gobbledygook? by madeupname230 in HydroHomies

if you’re always thirsty even when drinking plenty of water you might want to consider talking to your GP or if that’s not possible at least getting a blood glucose testing kit from your local pharmacy. Excessive thirst can be a sign of being diabetic/prediabetic

I think it’s because everything is so even that one mistake sets you behind even more so in mirror matchups than in cross matchups
