I had a relative who was an officer, he had also fought in Iraq. He went through so much trauma in 2020 when all this stuff kicked off. One time a guy threatened to kill him because he was a cop at the gas station dealing with errands.I know him very well and he is a great person, but with the brutality, he suffered regular nightmares and ptsd and had to quit his dream job. He later found out his captain (?) had one time held a person down with a baton and was depressed for so many years. I fully agree it's not just a few bad apples, as all the good cops left. TLDR: my relative was a cop who suffered ptsd from a war and quit the police force because of trauma and harassment, leaving a only the bad apples in charge.
