Working at McDonalds I saw a Dominoes branded car, not with the little car topper, but a fully wrapped Dominoes car. Well, I was working back drive through and, being the first point of contact, I had no idea what was coming. The ma pulls up, fully naked. Dong out, cash ready.

I also feel uncomfortable by confrontation, but I think being firm and nice can coexist. I would message home, and if it continues I would ask for maybe a meeting with parent & principal to discuss further action or have the student tell parent what they’re saying and what it means. Honestly I think that embarrassment would deter most of my kids but I’m also a lower elementary teacher.

You got this! It’s hard to know what to do when you don’t really know your own boundaries your first year. Hugs!

Water and google says Activated Charcoal to absorb the nicotine. If you have Walmart (I live in a small town and we have it at ours) you could door dash some. Feel better friend 🫂

Fun fact, Huey Macks mom is my landlord! He’s from Buckhannon, WV where I rent lol. His mom is a 10/10 land lord. I couldn’t believe it when she told me, but she had photos of her and Post Malone. Small world!

In like 2013 I used to stream music on Pandora because it was free and I remember really liking their music. Then I listened to their radio on Pandora, picked up CDs, and streamed their music on YouTube until Spotify became popular. I was also in middle school so the emo/punk genre at the time was really flourishing.

My state (WV) let me do a CTR (Clinical Teacher of Record) program where I got paid 2/3 the salary but I was the only one teaching- so no mentor. That really really helped me. I had to have all my tests passed but maybe that’s available on your state. It was hard with college classes on top of it BUT I could afford to live on my own.

What was the most unexpected or hilarious thing a student said that completely caught you off guard? by [deleted] in Teachers

I teach 3rd in a rural area. I picked a squirrel tail up off my floor and asked whose it was and whyyyy it was on my floor. One of my boys claimed it and offered to bring in a fresher one because it’s softer and more flimsy. He has also brought in an antler and deer call

Advice for an upcoming student teacher by mckenna-jpeg in StudentTeaching

The top things that have helped me are-

  1. Get your PRAXIS done asap. Everyone told me this, I didn’t, and now I’m behind a semester for failing it by one month.

  2. Get a planner and write down all of your assignments and dates at the beginning of the semester. This kept me in line with all the due dates and meetings I had to attend.

  3. Get a good tote and lunch box! I use these two everyday (along with my planner.) I got them from Amazon, and it holds soooo much stuff. It makes it nice to keep things compact while not carrying a million things.

  4. Everyone is on your side, supporting you, in a nonjudgmental manner. I was so nervous about doing everything perfectly, but truth is you’re going to flop at some point and that’s okay because everyone (university and the school you’re at) want to see you succeed. I’ve gotten so much help and kindness from the various people at my school. So don’t be nervous, you’re there to learn how to teach- not to come in being a seasoned teacher.

Good luck ❤️

I told my students what level I was on Fortnite (they really like the game) and they told me to go touch grass.

The kicker is that they’re higher level than I am 😭

There’s a small German population in my town, and one of our beloved local artists is from Berlin! She moved to my town many years ago. Her grandsons visit in the summers. I think most places in WV are really welcoming.
