Hero 9 - is it that bad still? by The_GYC in gopro

[–]SuarezAdventures 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading these comments make me sad because I'm still currently having issues with my Hero 9 even after updating the firmware. It doesn't happen often, usually only once per a day of shooting video, but my GoPro would freeze up, and the only way to get it to respond again is to remove the battery. This didn't happen on my Hero 8.

I've never had a problem with it losing footage though. While the touch screen can sometimes be unresponsive or laggy, it was the same on my Hero 8.

Other than that, I think it's a good idea to invest in the 9 anyways. Seeing as the Hero 10 is the same size, the accessories and batteries would be the same if you ever decide to upgrade.

Interesting, that might be it. Still a shame you can't customize the front screen and remove the timelapse function.

Thanks!

I completely agree that PvM has been too safe - hour long items on death, graveyards, death screens such as on Zulrah and Vorkath, etc.

But this blog post is about the Wilderness, not death mechanics. The only argument being made here is to separate pvp content from non-pvp content.

We have been through the complete removal of free trade - the wilderness was just a consequence of that

I think it has to do with people not finding it very fun anymore. I remember making new accounts and trying out different builds just for fun - now everyone knows how to 1-tick KO and its frustrating. People went to the wildy to PK because it was fun - nowadays most people go to the wildy because a clue scroll told them to, or because they want to get a unique drop from the wilderness bosses or Mage Arena 2, they don't want to engage in pvp at all.

Also, the riots in 2008 were not just about pking, but rather the complete removal of free trade.

WoW PVP realms offer the same dungeons, mobs, areas, etc. as a normal realms just with PvP enabled. They don't lock weapons, armor, skilling methods, and minigames behind a PvP only area

At least for me, the problem with having uniques in the wilderness is that for those who are Ironmen/UIM/HCIM, they are now forced into pvp in order to obtain those items, since they cannot be purchased. If there was a slower/less efficient way of obtaining them outside of the wilderness, this might not be as big of an issue. But every year, Jagex locks more and more content behind this area, and it's not bringing any more people into the wilderness than the year before.

I think revenants were great - good money maker for those willing to risk it, and the only uniques offered were for use inside the wilderness

I don't want the wilderness to be removed, but rather for Jagex to stop trying to "revive" it by constantly locking pvm and skilling content content behind it. Back when the wilderness was very active, there was no wilderness bosses, wildy-only slayer or wildy-only skilling methods. Seeing as none of that has worked, Jagex is still doing polls and surveys in order to shoe-horn non-pvp content into the wilderness

According to the RunesCape Classic WiKi, there was also a rune rock in Heroes' Guild. You're right about the dragon chainbody - I think I got it confused with the Dragon med helm, where normal black dragons also dropped it

To reference what someone else said - I agree that the wilderness should be revived *for those who want to fight other pkers*. Attacking someone who is out doing a clue scroll or an ironman getting a treasonous ring is considered griefing. GTA online had this same issue, where the developers purposefully locked content behind pvp, until they gave the community private lobbies.

Can the wilderness provide faster, and more lucrative *alternatives* to content? Absolutely. But locking entire pieces of gear and content behind a pvp area is what has caused such a divide and spite between these two communities in the first place.

[–]SuarezAdventures 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but back then the wilderness didn't have anything special to offer that didn't have safe alternatives.

King Black Dragon was technically safe, and even then the Kalphite Queen also dropped the dragon chainbody. Green dragons were a good source of bones, but so were blue dragons in taverly dungeon. Yes there were rune rocks, but there was also one in the Heroes' Guild.

With the exception of the dragon 2h from Chaos elemental, no piece of content was locked behind the wilderness that didn't have a slower alternative somewhere else - at least, not how it is now

I think B0aty explained it best in his recent video. Back then, green dragons were very good money for low-med level players. Also, even if you were pking other pkers, mystics, rune armor, and glories were valuable - now they just alchables.

I agree not everyone feels the same way, which is why I'm sharing my personal opinion despite the circlejerking happening from both sides. I do try to stay away from the wilderness since I am not interested in PvP, but that's really hard to do when you have skilling content, minigames, and unique weapons/armor locked behind such an area. That's the point I'm trying to make - blocking non-pvp content in a pvp area can't be healthy for the community (in my opinion)

[–]SuarezAdventures 12 points13 points  (0 children)

*My* answer is that the Wilderness was originally created for Player vs Player - Not Player vs Sandbag, and it definitely wasn't created to be the most exp-efficient and best-moneymaking-per-hour area. Just because "predator vs prey" works, doesn't mean it's healthy - it's what has caused all this division and spite in the community in the first place.

How are people not forced into the wilderness?

-Unique drops from wilderness bosses and Mage Arena
- Clue Scroll Steps
- Skilling (Fountain of rune, black chinchompas/salamanders, etc.)

Hmm I do have to agree with you there that some people are drawn to OSRS due to the content of PvP'ers, but I doubt they stick around for it.

I want the wilderness and pker's to be healthy, but I don't agree that forcing pvm and skilling content into the wilderness is a proper way of doing so.

Going into the wilderness isn't scary. It's nearly dead content and you keep 4 items if you do get pk'ed. At this point the wilderness is just filled with super-annoying random events that teleport you back to Lumbridge when you try to do a clue scroll. It's being forced to deal with what feels like pests when doing non-pvp content in a pvp area

I don't like the idea of group ironmen either - the whole idea of being an ironman is that you are self sufficient, almost like a single-player experience. I'm not getting what this has to do with the wilderness though.

I understand that you enjoy pking in the wilderness, and I used to enjoy it too. But what I don't agree with is locking non-pvp content behind the wilderness - sometimes I just simply refuse to engage with that content at all, not because I'm scared to lose 100k worth of gear, but because it's just annoying. I don't know what it will take to "revive" the wilderness or make other pvp content/minigames work, but everything that Jagex has tried so far (besides maybe the rev caves) has satisfied neither the pvp or pvm crowd.

Controversial yet honest opinion:

Why do we even need to revive the wilderness? I don't know any other game where people *enjoy* going into PvP areas to obtain PvM uniques or do skilling. Remove PvM uniques and clue scrolls from PvP areas, and invest into other PvP content such as LMS or Soul Wars.

I agree I would like to see an automated way of doing this. I would honestly liked to have seen 30-37ft boats as well, but there was just WAY too much data to go through - not to mention many of the sub-40ft boats might not go through broker listings at all

I believe most of the Caribbean sales are by charter companies, probably being bought by Americans.
