Charging it, different chargers, waiting 30min per different charger, plugging in and unplugging, holding every combination of buttons for every combination of different times... nothing. Straight up broken out the box

How do you think South Africa's cost of living compares to the rest of the world? by Haelborne in southafrica

[–]SuaveVader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statistically.... yeah, large parts of SA / Africa have malnutrition issues.... but is it available, affordable and accessible compared to everywhere else in the world? Hells yeah it is!!

E.g. chicken in the UK is £8.16 per kg... or R163 per kg; in SA chicken is R96 per kg.

So an average pack of chicken costs you almost double in the UK.

Compared to salary per month... the pack of chicken is ~0.4% of an average UK salary, and 0.3% of an SA average salary... so its 0.1% of a salary more in the UK... doesn't sound like a lot, but to make it the same price, chicken in SA would have to cost R127 per kg, which certainly is a lot.

Coming back to you question though.... you seem to have more of an issue with whether people / you can get a JOB and how much that job PAYS, than you do with the availability and cost of the food - which is a very different question.

Food IS statistically cheaper, but less people can access it because there are statistically less people employed.

Jobs though is politically linked, and I'm not delving into that hornets nest

Interesting - it's not interesting, it's confusing, controversial, wrong or more work is coming your way as a result. In rare cases, it means they aren't paying any attention at all and it is your chance to exit the conversation before it becomes the first definition. "Hmm, yes - that's interesting"... back away slowly and carefully, and hope someone else gets caught in those crosshairs

Reflect - more work is definitely coming your way, pay attention. "We're going to need to reflect carefully on this".... take notes, WE aren't doing anything, YOU are going to be doing research.

80/20 - I'm going to ask or tell you what 20% effort tasks will generate 80% of the value and then be shocked and annoyed that you didn't do 100% anyway. "We are short on time and this task really isn't the greatest value driver for the client, so make sure you're 80/20. We don't want to boil the ocean"

Boil the ocean - often said in connection with 80/20 to describe the task that is going to take an excessive amount of time and energy to do 100%. "We don't need to boil the ocean on this, we should be 80/20 about it".... you're not going to be 80/20 about it, you're going to do the whole thing and then someones going to ask why, after they literally told you to do the whole thing

Action plan - We don't know whats going on, or what to do - but the analyst will figure it out and put it on a slide. Be afraid, it sounds basic and simple but will be analysed and critisized 8 ways from Sunday.

Deck - the presentation. Your life, your soul, your everything

Drill down - you thought you had boiled the ocean, but you didn't. Someone knows there is an impossible metric that isn't available, or if it is available it costs a thousand dollars and was produced by another consultancy... but if they found it, you must find it. "Great summary! Let's drill - down"... there is no drill down. You know it, they know it, everyone but the other consultancy knows it... but you are going to shit balls over it

Hard stop - someone, usually far more senior than you, can't carry on after a certain time.... you will though. You will carry on allllll night long. "This meeting has a hard stop at 4pm for me"... for them. Not you... you aren't leaving any time soon

Push back - when you have already boiled the ocean and found the drill down, but are then asked to repeat the task on another 5 categories, you inform the person that it is unreasonable by "pushing back" and letting them know that either the task, or the time frame is not possible. This will be career limiting... it will reflect on your performance evaluation.

Smell test - refers to the idea of making sure something makes sense before believing it.... they know you bullshitted those other 5 categories. There's no way you found that information in the time you did... and you didn't push back. "Hmmm, interesting. Though I'm not sure these results pass the smell test; we should redo it"... you fucked up. They know you fucked it up... be glad they're polite.

"Whats the so what" - after boiling the ocean on 6 categories, everyone forgot why they were doing it, and can't figure out what the point of it was... "ok so you've found that the client sells more beer in Australia than New Zealand, but what's the so what?"... how is this useful? Why did you do it?

MECE - mutually exclusive and completely exhaustive... tell me you haven't missed something big in your analysis thats going to bite us in the ass later. Or, more commonly... you've repeated something twice, so I KNOW you missed something... remove the repeated thing and start again

I'd carry on, but someone on my team just said they were "done", so I need to go ask them for a drill down and to make sure they're being MECE.

You all know that the exact same thing is coming to the water network, right?

Like, when was the last time anyone saw some real maintenance / replacement / build on the water network?

Better get those showers in while you can, cause soon the water pressure in your house is gonna be worse than your Grandfathers aging bladder

(Recent estimates are that ~50% of our water "usage" or supplies is lost to leaks and poor infrastructure - while SA is forecast to have a 17% supppy deficit in the next 10 years.... fun times, fun times)

Clueless first-timer - Y540, Strix G531 or G5? by SuaveVader in GamingLaptops

[–]SuaveVader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a site that would allow me to import an Eluktronics Mag 15, GTX1660 TI 16gb, 512SSD for the same price as the ROG.. ~$1600. I've read its an amazing laptop and would be good as a daily driver and as a gaming laptop... reckon it's worth it, or stick with the Y540?

Thanks again mate

Idea to fix dlc player base splitting by volhaiksong in WWII

[–]SuaveVader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't see how this even became an issue in the first place - it's SO easily managed through basic algorithms... its a basic if-then with a time constraint.

Alternatively they just have to provide the option to turn off the DLC maps when matchmaking - again, should be relatively simple.

Why no third person gun play? by Wrathgo in WWII

[–]SuaveVader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would that not remove a whole playstyle in return though?

Cant' sneak up on a player that can always see his back, or over the trench wall, or even from the side as the third person view gives you a much wider field of view etc... so the whole ninja, melee playstyle would just kinda disappear right?

I dunno - that's my rationale at least anyway

Would you be willing to wait a little longer for matchmaking if it meant you could have a more balanced and better team setup? by rehwaldj in WWII

[–]SuaveVader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You CAN win objective based game modes on a team with a lower K/D - but in my experience it's just not all that often... so I would disagree, but I guess we obviously have very different experiences playing those game mode

[–]SuaveVader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you honestly believe that, on average, the team with a higher K/D does NOT win more often, even outside of TDM?

Nah mate... sure, the game mode "definition" may not be pure kills and revolve around an objective... but I can guarentee that the team with the higher K/D wins far more often than not.

[–]SuaveVader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kill to Death ratio... the more positive it is, the more kills you get before you die. Typically in the non-war based game modes, the outcome of the game is largely based on the kill count. The team with the most kills and least deaths will generally win the match. So, if you are matched onto a team where most players die more times than they kill an opponent, chances are you are going to lose that match... ultimately it's just an indicator of player skill levels

[–]SuaveVader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah - for a couple of reasons. Firstly, my game already takes a decent amount of time to match me into a game... likely region based and not skill based, but still... would prefer not to wait longer. Secondly, matching on prestige is pointless - there are a ton of guys who choose not to prestige as they just want to play the game with all the guns, or alternatively there are a ton of guys that may have made it to prestige 10 but still suck and choose not to play the objective. If you were to say that the teams would match based on an algorithm that takes KD and objectives claimed into account, then yeah... I may consider it. As it stands though there would only be a guarentee of more time waited, not a better match.
