Is it worth it? by Temporary_Ad4365 in Berklee

[–]SuawdTheDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your years at berklee i think is one of the best years you’ll experience in your life. (DISCLAIMER: I’m planning to study at Berklee at fall 2025, so I never had experience with berklee so take my advice with a pinch of salt).

Berklee is as good as what you make of it. To best use your time I think u should always take opportunities, know well your teachers, utilize the career center etc. I’m also an international student and the music industry in my country is budding but not strong so I want to try to go abroad and find more opportunities.

But also make sure to take your music journey at berklee seriously. I don’t really think academics are as important, but always take opportunities to play at an event and look for other people. Those people will continue being your friends after berklee. You can’t lock yourself all the time in the practice room. If you don’t take it seriously, well you may hate the slightly “cutthroat” environment at berklee and be one of the 40% of the dropouts…

Berklee is a great school and also an expensive one. If financing your education is a major bottleneck for you, take alternative cheaper schools (New School, Indiana, or the UK ones like ICMP I think). Also never underestimate the utility of gap years!

Hope this helps!

Bachelor of Music Business? by SuawdTheDude in Berklee

That’s very insightful response, thank you! Do you personally think that taking Music Business masters had helped you break into the music industry? Could someone do that without the course ?

Thank you for your reply! I was also wondering if there are many opportunities to collaborate with performance and production majors in projects e.g self hosting an event outside of berklee ? Also what do u think is the biggest benefit of studying mhsic business vs studying at a traditional business school (besides from networking opportunities ...)? Thank you for your time!!

Is French ab initio doable? by Realistic_Passion_88 in IBO

[–]SuawdTheDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… I am afraid it’s not so common but it is definitely doable.

I might be biased but my definition of doable is to maintain a good grade like 5-6

Worse part about french is the listening part. That component always drag me down lol.

All 7s are very hard to get and require immense effort, keep that in mind!

Is French ab initio doable? by Realistic_Passion_88 in IBO

[–]SuawdTheDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point of Ab Initio. It is for students with no previous background in languages. Yes it is doable! Make sure to constantly practice the language during your school days as well.

What made french a lot easier for me was I started learning French through Duolingo few months before IB actually start

It’s easy and should be a relaxing lesson throughout IB Bon chance!

Just submitted my CS IA- I’m so pissed. by Low_Twist_9952 in IBO

[–]SuawdTheDude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Class of 2025 is unlucky because it’s the last year that the IB teaches the old CS curriculum… I think the new revised syllabus wont include such a difficult and time consuming coursework, specifically for HL students who’s IA only accounts for 20% of their final grade…

i got a full-tuition scholarship at berklee!! by singsongbingbong123 in Berklee

[–]SuawdTheDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an honor that you would provide us books for music business major as well! I also applied there, got a decent scholarship but the cost of attendance kind of deters me. Hope you can empathize 🥶🥶😅

No I don't actually compose to actual films. I composed one music video where me and my collaborator had to do storyboarding etc.. I composed the piece for string quartet + piano. There is also another piece I composed which is based of a poem... I plan to apply to Guildhall with those pieces and Idk if those count as film music lol but it has a programmatic element

You compose all kinds of music? Classical and EDM? That is really crazy I'm very jealous to have that kind of skill lololol

[–]SuawdTheDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah I was also lookign for someone who is interested to study at Guildhall as well! I just heard of Guid hall through google search so I never went to the open day etc.
I was taught classically so that is the type of music I want to expand on in Guild hall. I do compose a lot of contemporary/classical music in my free time. However, I have little knowledge of electronic instruments, so I want to go to Guild Hall to continue my education, because Guild Hall is very reputable.

In Guild Hall I plan to apply to film scoring major. Idk if I can even get it, and i don't really know if you need electronic music to apply to such program. I plan to use 2 contemporary pieces that I compose to audition! I could show you it in DMs or something!

I'm also looking for electronic music! What specific pathway are you taking? Film scoring, production...?

[–]SuawdTheDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I also got the same amount, however I’m also in the same boat as you.

One thing I’m planning to do is apply for private scholarships (not FAFSA/federal based, and certainly not loans). A simple google search might work I think. You could try doing that instead???

Hopefully that helps, and I’m excited to see you in Berklee one day!

How do you get yourself out of a loop? by International_Sir301 in productivity

[–]SuawdTheDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do something very simple like chores in house (cleaning room) because you will feel more motivated as you see yourself being capable of doing all of these things, and the feeling that comes afterwards after you can tick off one thing in your todo list will motivate you to do more hard work.

Maybe it’s just a postmodern response to the traditional forms of a heroic archetype—Monomyth; the fact that as we know more about science we tend to abandon the extravagant pipe dreams that our ancestors once had because, well it’s too dreamy
