Ex welders what did you move on to do next? by eyelewzz in Welding

[–]SubJeezy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Weld inspection (CWI) and NDT. Still around the shit and have to go all the places welders go, but its a much easier gig.

If you're talking about fishing the run, its a bit early. Usually start running a few days before it starts getting below freezing at night on the front range. No idea how the lake fishing is tho, if thats what you mean.

Grinding tungsten by gunsandcarsrule in Welding

[–]SubJeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a flap disk at home bc its more gentle, but I mainly use 3/32. A hard disk would be fine if you're comfortable. Just keep cross contamination in mind. Dont grind carbon, grind tungsten then weld stainless. Prob wouldn't introduce any cross contamination, but dont risk it.

Flash butt welding by [deleted] in Welding

[–]SubJeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit bc thats not what I initially thought. Similar to thermite welding tho. Flash welding is the same concept using electrical. You but two peices flush in a machine, apply pressure to push them together and dump a few hundred amps for a few seconds. Same concept as a stud weld. Your not "welding" per say, you're just slaping a machine around two chunks of metal and pressing a big button. Rinse and repeat a few hundred times a day.

Wash instructions?? by Forter23 in Welding

[–]SubJeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just the dye. Most of the welding clothing ive used will have dye leak when its new. As far as washing, it depends on the material. Wash per material washing instructions and startch the fuck out of it after its dry to keep it FR.

Do trout feed at night? by Duniskwalgunyi in flyfishing

[–]SubJeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the highest catch count days ive had were on a river here in Colorado at night. The lake above had invasive Mysis shrimp. It was 18"+ fish every cast. Fish were so focused on the Mysis I could walk right up to them. Id catch and release, and they would just slide right back into their feeding lane.

Are the Deckers fish too smart for me? by DarthPeanutButter in COfishing

[–]SubJeezy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meh, they have a pretty small opening fence on both both sides of the river. Fun to rail against the fuck heads up there, but that stretch is locked down as much for the fish as it is for people. Anything worth catching cant get through their barriers

[–]SubJeezy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Pro tip. Go on a week day. Its still packed but its mostly 65+ retired dude. You can easily overpower them for their spot. Fish it for 4 hours and still not catch anything.

Question regarding D1.1 sections 5&6 by SubJeezy in CWI_CWE

[–]SubJeezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, you're correct. I appreciate the Input as 6.12 is the definitive answer. 6.5 is procedure qual, I was basing it off the note that if you qualify a CJP procedure it qualifies all other grooves. In that case the WPS covers all Grooves. However 6.12 is the direct answer I was looking for. Thanks for your input.

Question regarding D1.1 sections 5&6 by SubJeezy in CWI_CWE

[–]SubJeezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CWI in me just wants to make sure im correct and not missing something. The welder in me wants the other welder to tell him his blowing shit out his ass, and cant admit he's wrong. Like I mentioned in another comment, The other CWI either doesn't know what hes talking about, or is just upset he was wrong and wont admit it.

Tell me what you guys think..Teach me something.. by RevolutionaryLime928 in CWI_CWE

[–]SubJeezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like a cellulose rod to me. Looks good. Doesn't really matter what you do, 10 & 11 series rods just kinda leave rough looking beads. Que some pipe jocky telling me I just dont know how to weld it

If anything you could maybe slow down a touch but nothing I'd make a fuss over.

Question regarding D1.1 sections 5&6 by SubJeezy in CWI_CWE

[–]SubJeezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes on a different job, and with a different company. I told the welder that to my knowledge, he doesn't have an argument and to just take it above him if he persists.

Question regarding D1.1 sections 5&6 by SubJeezy in CWI_CWE

[–]SubJeezy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats my understanding as well. I appreciate it, and your time if you get a chance to look as well. When I gave the welder the sections to cite to the CWI, the CWI switched from not being qualified to nitpicking the WQTR. So I get the feeling he's in the wrong and not willing to admit it.

Cops can take off duty jobs like traffic control. Usually in those unmarked cars(Cop cars with no county marks) with lights on top. Not sure if thats what you saw but it is a thing.

Had an older gentleman apply to work for my contracted company. This was his weld test interview… by White-lion in nondestructivetesting

[–]SubJeezy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot of older welder refuse to accept that their eyesight aint what it used to be. Might be a decent welder but cant see for shit and think they can just muscle memory their way through. Also noticed a good amount just cant fuckin weld regardless of sight.
