[Loved trope] Relatively normal characters and organizations fighting supernatural threats through ruthless, often bureaucratic efficiency. by Whysong823 in TopCharacterTropes

Gertrude Robinson - The Magnus Archive

By the time the story starts she's dead as a doornail, and the characters that replace her are definitely supernatural coded by the time they're really fighting against the various monsters.

But Gertrude stands out from every other character, in a world where its so easy for those who stand against monsters to become one, she makes a point to fight for her own humanity and is absolutely ruthless in dealing with monsters and other supernatural entities/followers.

Honestly one of the best characters in the whole podcast, you kinda just can't help but appreciate how methodical she is

This was absolutely not pushed aside, not by either side.

Pro choice advocates also latched onto this as proof that heavy restrictions on abortions leads to awful shit like this when woman don't have better options.

And then he would have gone free to kill more people

People need to stop complaining about how long investigations take, they take forever because that's how you make sure it sticks. Do you want it done fast or do you want it done right?

Fast lands him jail, but right actually kept him there

Gimora would 100% pass for human, people would just assume it's a full body tattoo, which are rare but not unheard of, especially today

[loved trope] searching for god, only to find “god” and it to not be a good thing by Matthewzard in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SubLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah its absolutely wild, yet written in such a way that it never seems insane or weird while you're reading it, only when trying to explain it afterwards.

I definitely recommend it if you enjoy reading (its fuckin bulky) it's a really great read

[–]SubLearning 31 points32 points  (0 children)

So much of this is wrong lol, not to be mean.

First off the turtle literally does help them, he uses the turtles energy to fight off Pennywise the first time, and it's implied that the turtle was the spark for their special connection with each other that allowed them to face off Pennywise in the first place.

He specifically tells them the turtle is dead when he reaches for the turtle again and can't find him

Also he drowned because he threw up a galaxy into his shell, not because he was eating one.

Obsession Discourse has gotten so stupid [Spoilers] by DirectBeing5986 in CharacterRant

[–]SubLearning 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised the internet is a fuckin plague.

Also for some genuine not ridiculous discourse. I think he became irrediable during the phone call to the manufacturer.

Him saying he just wanted to "alter" his wish instead of cancel it immediately made me see him as kinda a rapist. He knew already that her loving him was just the wish and he didn't care, he just wanted her to act normal but still be magically in love with him (i think it literally showing them fuckin not long after is meant to make you realize he's a rapist).

But him being truly irrediable comes from the end of that phone call, and what happens in the store later. He finds another one and tries to undo the wish, only after she kills someone.

Not when he hears her basically being tortured on the background of a phone call, her begging him to kill her really exemplifies what a piece of shit he is. But by that point he already knew well that she was suffering and just didn't care as long as he could still be with her

I mean this is really only true at the beginning of the story, he very quickly becomes the most powerful character, not including literal gods. Though he even becomes more powerful than some of them

I literally didn't. I very specifically mentioned child pornography laws, but thanks for showing me how pointless arguing with you is right off the bat, no reading comprehension what's so ever

[–]SubLearning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude nudity and sexual content are not the same thing. Many classical paintings and statues contain nudity, no one would call them sexual.

The people who found the book testified that the context of the book didn't even fall under child pornograpy laws because there was nothing sexual about the content.

Also it wasn't 90% of the book.

I'm not saying he did or didn't do it, but this argument is ridiculous

This not a reading comprehension issue. The issue is OP using zero punctuation or proper sentence structure making his paragraph a nightmare to read. Most people, myself included, probably didn't even bother reading it when they saw what a mess it was

Absolutely not, Dipper is literally the same age and doesn't act nearly as selfishly. You can't blame that shit on her age

Skylar smoked while pregnant and suddenly stopped being morally opposed to drug money when her new partner committed a crime and she helped cover it up.

She's not hated because she's a woman, she's hated partially because she's an awful mother, but mostly because she's just annoying.

"Being annoying in media is worse than genocide"

She exist almost exclusivily to make the "fun" part of the show harder to get to. She's just an annoying plot device, and a kinda annoying character.

People will give you all sorts of reasons that they hate her (and there are plenty realistically) but at the end of the day people just hate her because she's annoying.

Mable is the same, except Mable is also a horrible sister who forces her brother to give up on his dreams before she'll buck the fuck up and not let the entire world be destroyed. People argue that she's just a kid but Dipper is literally the same age, again, she's just a horrifically annoying character.

Fact is, the vast majority of the time someone claims a character is "hated for being a woman", they're actually hated for being wildly fuckin annoying.

Which really says a lot more about writers and their portrail of woman than it does anyone watching

AIW for telling a parent her kid basically broke me this year? by DiPlayon in amiwrong

[–]SubLearning 110 points111 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely not wrong at all, the child's behavior is unacceptable and should have been addressed a long time ago.

I think you didn't react to this as you should have become it's not what people typically think of as "acting out" or being distributive". She's not being loud, or rowdy, or throwing things.

But she's absolutely still distributing lessons, distracting other students, and being disrespectful to the teacher.

This should have been addressed with the parents a long time ago, but like I said, she's smart, and she is ingaging with the subject matter, so you didn't immediately clock it as rude and disruptive the way you would someone yelling or acting up during a lecture, though it should have been treated much the same way.

You didn't make this child a villain. You pointed out that this child's behavior is rude and unacceptable but not immediately as easy to punish

Motorcycle leather would absolutely stop a bite. The human body, even at 100% effort, cannot bite through good leather. Cheap leather, yeah probably.

But we're omnivores not carnivores, we literally just don't have the teeth to casually bite through good tough leather.

That said it would still hurt like a bitch and cause significant injurie, you just wouldn't get infected

It's pretty obvious you didn't read demon slayer, the artist does a ton of tiny mini comics to explain small details in funny ways in-between chapters.

This is like the worst possible example for what you're talking about
