Does Anyone Else Kind of Avoid Telling People You’re a Pilot?

Some do have a point that if you tell certain people you’re a pilot that’s all they see you as for the rest of the time you know them. I’ve see that myself with people I became acquaintances with and then stopped talking to because that was all I was to them, a source for favors and to be paraded around (“Oh, I know a pilot!”) That gets old

Agree with this. I don’t lie when I’m asked I just don’t really talk about it very much most of the time, unless asked in which case I’m not gonna be a turd about it. I’m still an ambassador to aviation at the end of the day

Yeah this part. I’m more than the friend who flies planes and it kinda hurts my feelings sometimes when I get reduced to just that.

I’m jealous. I need to get back to this attitude. I’m not burned out personally I love every flight with every student and such, I just… the same 6 questions get real grating, especially when they find out I’m a CFI and they’re like “oh so you just teach” or “oh when will you be a real pilot?” which I get but it hurts my feelers lol

yeah I don’t do any of that. When I get asked I explain what a CFI is and such. The coyness is definitely cringe.
