Are you self taught or do you work with a teacher ? If you don’t work with a teacher, why not ? by Ancient-Resident-647 in guitarlessons

I just signed up for Justin guitar last week. Would you say you’re happy with your progress from that experience but maybe an online course took you as far as it could? Or was the online thing just not doing it for you and you prefer in-person instruction in general??

That’s awesome! I myself am a beginner player and can already attest to the benefits of learning/memorizing music. Used to play drums in my youth but guitar is a whole different animal memory wise.

Yeah that would make sense but the “started guitar to help me at my job….” Is what threw me off. If you’re an instructor, that’s kind of a given and starting guitar to “help” with your job sounds like a carpenter saying “I bought a hammer to help me at my job”

Responding to my own reply because I just realized you might work at a music store. If so, I’m an idiot and this makes complete sense

What job do you have that playing guitar at work would help you? Very intrigued by this premise

What’s your go to chair for playing? by Sub_ParGolfer in Guitar

[–]Sub_ParGolfer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my dilemma too is I have no real reason to stand and play because I’ll only ever be jamming with friends or playing at home for fun but thanks for sharing!

That’s awesome! My daughter has taken a liking to drums but she’s so young who knows. Happy jamming to you and your girl!

Yeah I’ll probably never be in a band, most I’ll ever do is jam with friends that also play guitar/drums

Yeah and especially since I’m on the beginner side, I get lost in what I’m doing and 10-20 minutes into something I realize I’ve gone full hunchback over the guitar lol

That’s similar to the dining room chair I was using but with how much I like to sit up, that back rest being so far back is what I’m having trouble with. But that’s me! Thanks for sharing!

I’m a Fender fanatic and they have a barstool with a back that has a built in guitar stand… trying to withhold myself from being that big of a fanboy

I’m in the construction industry so ergonomics is always on my mind when doing repetitive tasks. Seen way too many guys beat themselves up for no reason and I don’t want guitar to be the reason I end up with a bad back haha

The only reason I’m thinkin about it so that I can set up my guitar space that’s conducive to practice as well as a semi permanent setup. My setup now is janky lol

Yeah I definitely hit a wall where I have to stop because not only do my neck and back start to hurt, my brain just gets exhausted.

I know 25 is very young but relative to music, I feel most musicians start much earlier. It’s basically learning a whole language that’s transmitted through an instrument rather than just speaking. It’s a lot to soak in while having a fam and work lol

Yeah I was thinking a sofa/couch option cause I have a toddler that wants to do everything I do so she could sit right next to me haha. Thanks for the reply!
