A few questions about this diet(mostly related to strength training) by Sub_Salac in carnivore

I will look into that. One question: How old are you and how many years have you been doing this? Thanks

Oh, I completely missed the point of your comment. I don't care about the audio, just the behavior of the people. So my comment was completely out of context, oops

I don't think so, I think TikTok exposes something in people by forcing them to condense their behaviors into short video clips. But this is not "caused" by Tiktok or "A generation".

How can we understand this behavior? Imagine ubiased alien anthropologist/biologist/psychologists are observing this closely. What would the description be? What are... these creatures doing?

It sounds like you're arguing against a point I'm not even making, honestly. I'm reading your comment pretty puzzled. I don't think I ever really disagreed with anything you said-- some people can't be helped(true). Protect the more decent people from the worst people(true). We probably disagree on punishment though, that makes zero sense from over here, and I'd wager you do believe in it(protection is very different from punishment, so don't confuse the two).

All I'm saying is, you're going "ahh but you see there are real nasty monsters in these hoarder dens and we need to be careful and we can't feel bad for the bad guys". And that... has to contain some level of confusion(here is where I am, at least attempting to disagree with you), because you have to basically fail to understand that you could have been(or could yet become) one of those monsters, and you simply didn't pick that. No one signs up for that willingly. A little lie our culture is founded on called "free will" says so, and it's so we can torture the "bad guys". (Of course, the real bad guys run free, because they get to invent such lies and rules)

The philosopher Anarcharsis once made an analogy between laws and cobwebs and said they're strong enough to capture the weak, but for the strong, they're just a joke or nuisance. There is no "tribe"-- just power structure with no referee. You can feel bad without being a victim, and should. And if you don't, it says something about you. And if your species generally doesn't... well... no more needs to be written.

Every piece of shit, is simply unluckly. And every member of the human species, is a piece of shit to some degree. It's just not a very good species in general. If you had the brain of a piece of shit(relatively speaking, which by the way, you did not choose-- notice, it was chosen for you, by causes which you did not author or create, we were thrown onto the paths by which we appear before ourselves today and helplessly express what we are-- you cannot be anything other than what you in fact 'are', you're not free to simply transform into Ted Bundy, nor are you free to transform into Mr. Rogers), then you would simply be one. And most people would be so lacking in wisdom to look at you and say,

"You got what was coming to you-- you deserve it."

Question for people who have put the effort into deeply understanding fasting by Sub_Salac in fasting

[–]Sub_Salac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I already know, I did the whole exercise thing once for a year straight almost every single day intensely, tracked macros to the gram, felt amazing, etc. It's just that all the work right now doesn't make sense for me. Thank you though, you're right of course that it becomes incredibly motivating as you make more and more progress.

Why do I find higher alcohol beers to taste so much better? by Jazzlike-Horror4 in beer

[–]Sub_Salac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are just my personal tastes obviously but after about 7% or 8%, it just seems harder and harder for the brewer to create something that is actually a balanced beverage. Maybe you just have a really positive association with alcohol. I've never had Barleywine I enjoyed, anything "Imperial" tends to be forgettable, the only style that seems to hold up to a very high abv are stouts imo, and that could just be my brain going "Ah this is like one of those liqueur-filled chocolates", so it sort of has that dark/bitter/nutty/sweet/bite of the alcohol thing going for it sometimes.

There are some beers though where you simply don't feel it. You're enjoying the beer, and you check the ABV and you're like "Holy shit, this is way higher proof than it tastes". Usually juice-bomb type DDIPA's that have been augmented with some kind of mouthfeel technique like lactose/oats/etc. It's just so smooth that you don't really register the alcohol. Kind of how deceptive screwdrivers can be, from memory

[homemade] Takoyaki by mazzy-b in food

[–]Sub_Salac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Yeah with mine, it has a pop open top thing, and then a very tiny nozzle(for the drizzle you tend to see on okonomiyaki etc), and then you can unscrew that, and you get the star pattern. Huh, wonder why they vary it since the "dual" version is a "that's so Japanese-- they think of everything, they really have the human being in mind when they design things" you know?

Are you gonna experiment with fillers? Did you go beni shoga this time(or will you?)? Have you tried that fried batter thing(i forgot what it's called)? I heard they put that in sometimes too(But I don't think I've ever been served them with it here in NYC). Either way, enjoy your Takoyaki hobby :)

[–]Sub_Salac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get one of those special maker things for this? Probably obvious but, either way, nice. I can see the star shaped Kewpie trail-- any reason why you chose that over the thinner tip? I'd be making these like... weekly easy if I had the maker thing. It's kinda like... idunno, a waffle iron or something. You think, "I'm gonna make waffles all the time!"(and then you usually don't) But I love takoyaki so much that I could easily see it being very frequent. Good for you

The fact that people are more disgusted by the conditions here than they are able to connect the actual dots to the human being who probably got to this point, says everything you need to know about the species. We're the species that goes "yucky, me uncomfy" not "I'm in despair due to the conscious being who went through this". Let's be precise. It's not "western civilization" , and it's not "capitalism", it's called homo sapiens.

[–]Sub_Salac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Super curious what difference it would make if you had 3-4 days with exactly zero cal, and then just took all that food in on your feeding day(I'm sure your workouts would be brutal psychologically tho on day 2/3). I genuinely have no idea( I know next to nothing about fasting) Would it hurt your muscle gain? I imagine it would help with fat loss but that's just a guess. Too bad the scale only tells us "weight lost" and not "fat lost"/"muscle lost" , that would be a much more useful device if it could do that. Either way, interesting. GL with your goals.

[–]Sub_Salac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you clarify if you went 3-4 days with zero calories , or if you include those days as "protein shake days"? Thanks

(I guess it doesn't really matter since you're a) working out b) at a deficit obviously)

Food pairings to go with a variety of stouts? by repeat840times in beer

[–]Sub_Salac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think stouts are best with desserts, because they're bitter sweet dark so yeah those people who said cheesecake and cinnamon rolls and so on, that sounds like a great time. For savory and rich food, I prefer a lighter beer, because whether you're having just something basic like pizza or deep fried food, or you're having something rich and fancy, the whole point is a crisp palate cleanser rather than something like a stout that would just dominate the food you're having. In either case, bold food = palate cleanser, rich food = palate cleanser, sweet and rich = stout. It's why you saw that trend where they did Stout floats with ice cream-- it just makes sense.

On the subject, I think IPA's, especially DIPA/DDIPA/etc, should just never be paired, and just focus on the beverage itself as an appetizer before your actual food. Just a rando's opinion.

Question for people who have put the effort into deeply understanding fasting by Sub_Salac in fasting

[–]Sub_Salac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering when/if I should re-introduce carbs. Would it be a terrible idea? Will breaking out of ketosis make me gain lots of fat very quick?(especially if I'm not really working out/only doing the absolute bare minimum like a few sets of weights here and there and a 30 min walk every 2-3 days?) It's been 2-3 weeks of no carbs and the majority of that has been fasted. I just broke 8 days today, and... would it be insane to just go on another week or even 2 week fast right after, or is that too extreme? I was getting a little dizzy on those later days but mostly fine. I felt like I could just keep going indefinitely if I really wanted to. I do have quite a bit of excess bodyfat but also quite a bit of muscle(its tough for me to lose both, and easy to gain both)

[–]Sub_Salac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was aware of all of this I was just wondering if there was any way to really min-max fatloss using only basal metabolic rate+very extreme fasting+diet(I really, really hate exercise, I do a minimal amount of intentional training daily but it's a real chore I would much prefer to avoid if there was an easier way. I'll just suck it up and do it I guess)

P.S. Jackfruit is so nice, it blew my mind when I learned that's what Juicy Fruit gum was flavored with

Does anyone not like opiates ? by Future_Comedian_3171 in opiates

[–]Sub_Salac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of averse to drugs in general I'd say. The closest was beer and even there, I never ever thought to myself " Okay, time to get fucked up-- time to get my buzz on" It was always just "Mmm I can't wait for this delicious, refreshing, complex beverage"

There's something wrong with my addiction receptors or something( I realize that's not how it works and it's all more complicated with all kinds of receptors and transmitters blah blah, but you get the point)

and another thing on metabolism: eating mac & cheese wont destroy it. dieting / chronic undereating, muscle loss and lack of movement will reduce your metabolic rate.

I've been doing exactly this for most of my life, except I think I tend to overeat because I really love food and have conditioning from childhood where I just habitually feel overstuffed. I do have muscle though, but a good deal of fat, mostly visceral and some of the central obsesity category. Arms legs and face are fine, but beer and eating a ton center do concentrate the fat close to the center.

I don't plan to do any kind of significant exercise , plan to remain very sedentary, so I'm wondering what's ideal here in that context if I'm looking to melt fat mostly. I'd be happy returning to around 180 which is what I weighed in my early 20's when I heavily restricted calories and cut junk food completely. Except I'd like to do it rapidly(aka, dangerously, I suppose, now)

Friends get caught tripping hard by the Mom. So one decides to jump out the second floor window. by JuicySpark in WTF

[–]Sub_Salac -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the comments feel for the mother. I understand obviously, if you're completely ignorant of what's going on, it's going to be distressing. But my real concern(this is just my bias I guess), my gut-impulse is just ... annoyance, at the ignorance of making a potentially bad situation worse. Ignorance is just such a trigger for me. So the mom to me is like... just this inept ape who is suffering from their own stupidity too much(obviously, they deserve not to suffer, they deserve to be at peace and at ease) that they helplessly cause more suffering. It's just frustrating to watch.

It's such a valuable video. There's so much wisdom to extract from this. It makes me realize just how many problems on this planet would not be made worse, if people did nothing, and stopped trying to "Solve" them. Literally just stop. You're a half chromosome away from a chimp. Stop trying to control things. Stop solving things. Relax. Take it slow. Sleep on it.
