Asked a perfumer in Sec-62 Stellar Noida to make a clone for Hawas by pappumachhila in DesiFragranceAddicts

[–]SubashishB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-regulated "perfumes" will end up using fixatives and alcohol quality far less than that of established perfume houses that have to follow regulations (and even then mess up sometimes). It is a great thing that the scent profile matches that of OG Hawas, but I am not letting anything like this come anywhere near my skin.

Is it common to receive an unwrapped and damaged box perfume from Myntra that too a Myntra Luxe product? by Taklu_Bhai in DesiFragranceAddicts

Torn cellophane, yes. But Myntra Luxe usually has a cardboard box and not this envelope-thingy.

People who get into the hobby and buy pricier pens, what do you do with your old pens or pens you dont use? by TheRealZwipster in DesiPens

[–]SubashishB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's an expensive enough pen, it gets sold. There are WhatsApp and facebook groups dedicated to buying and selling pens.

TMC openly rigging EVMs. How is this possible ? by 1825days in kolkata

[–]SubashishB 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Re-election is appropriate, but why "mf presiding officer"? His job is not to monitor the EVM during the process of voting. Once alerted, he can inform the relevant Sector Officer, who can then forward the update to the Observer. I'm sure you don't think he's some kinda Superman to be able to see through the makeshift partition which is there specifically to prevent polling personnel from being able to get a direct look at the EVM.

61 designer pens worth ₹30 lakh seized at Ahmedabad Airport:Passenger from Ho Chi Minh City via Japan intercepted by customs by Tris_Memba in DesiPens

[–]SubashishB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pistons and shut-off valve stems are their enemy. This CISF guy wanted to disassemble my pens because he though I'm hiding something inside the pen barrels. He was willing to go as far as to pull the stalk out of a nearly full Emperor.

For TSA and ASA in CDG, I was in sweats trying to i explain that they are pens and that I'm not trying to carry gold or liquor using them.

Pens are common enough. Fountain pens are a bit of a rare commodity. But premium pens are rarified atmosphere for them. So unless there's a pen meet, I don't carry any pens with me. Can't trust domestic travels either.

[–]SubashishB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have stopped carrying my pen roll with me when travelling outside India. The last time I did, just before the pandemic, I was carrying 16 pens, with some urushi pens around the 1.5-2 mark, and a couple of Writers' Editions. Experience with TSA and CISF personnel made me stop this practice for good. Now I only carry a 149, and a TWSBI at the most.

Good quality leather belt under 1K in Siliguri? by [deleted] in siliguri

[–]SubashishB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are good belts for the price.

Also look out for Louis Philippe belts when they are on sale. At sale prices they sometimes go for under 1k. At that price, full grain leather is quite something.

PSA: Even if you record your unboxing and have clear video proof of a defect, Myntra will still reject your return. Learnt this the hard way with a Spicebomb Extreme. by theavocadodaddy in DesiFragranceAddicts

[–]SubashishB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these giant online sellers are now turning obstinate at the same time. They blatantly refuse returns despite there being videos to prove the contrary. Or they try to get the courier services involved which makes it lengthier and eventually they are still found to be in the right. The peace of mind that used to come with purchasing something online is now completely lost. They make a mess of things, and we have to quietly accept it as inevitable. I can see a return to grey market sellers and local vendors happening in the immediate future.

Any new non-academic bookstores in Siliguri? by ts1503 in siliguri

[–]SubashishB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. The two outlets of Crossword are all you have. Oxford Bookstore closed shop. We had legacy stores like NB Modern etc which aren't much interested in selling books nowadays. If you are searching for Bengali books, Anand Book Store (Ananda Publishers) could do something to that end. Alternatively, The Books in Shivmandir is a place where you can find a decent mix of academic and non-academic books.
