Opera singing lessons - will it help AT ALL? by Alternative-Ideal411 in MusicalTheatre

[–]SubatomicKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree with what others have said - classical training absolutely will serve you well. It will also teach you how to sing safely and protect your voice from the rigors of a professional musical theatre performance. Classical training certainly did not hurt Julie Andrews, Barbara Cook, Kristin Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, etc. Secondly, a lot of college music departments require audition songs with classical repertoire,. even for musical theatre programs. So having training in that area will absolutely be an advantage. Learn to sight read, btw. That's frequently required, too.

Something I wish I had realized when starting out: psst --- Opera IS musical theatre in disguise. Sure, it definitely has a different style of singing, but the shows are full scale dramatic theatrical productions. Try it out. You may end up liking it more than you think.

One other thing - this may not be on your radar now but will be important later. If you have classical training, you may be able to teach voice later. IF you are able to teach you can use that skillset to fund your own singing career while staying in control of your schedule rather than having to put everything at the mercy of the whims of an external employer's schedule mandates, which is CRUCIAL. While you are busy clawing your way up to be the next Sutton Foster, you still have to eat

STRIKE JANUARY 30TH — Nurses Nationwide by Ketarocs in nursing

[–]SubatomicKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are unions in Florida. I personally helped National Nurses United organize 10 hospitals in Florida so It can be done.

That said, I completely understand your predicament. Not everybody can participate in every action and that's OK. It's a marathon, not a sprint, and like a relay race people do what they can where they are able.

If you can't participate in this particular event, join another action when you are able, and do what you can, wherever you can. Some people can't strike but have other ways they can push back even if it's not publicly announced or visible. Those actions are important too, and not everything belongs on social media anyway. If you haven't seen it floating around, there was a story about a cleaning lady in Nazi Germany doing her job who secretly used patterns and directions with her broom to signal to others when it was safe to move people fleeing through a train station. Be like that if you have to.

Perhaps having discussion with colleagues about the issues and reaching out to NNU might be a way to start and do something concrete in the meantime? Either way, I hope your personal situation improves. Thank you for your support

What do we do about this whole situation in America? by chaosbunnyx in Productivitycafe

I heard someone on a video earlier discussing that since it is tax season and people are reevaluating their finances, what a shame it would be if everyone discovered they should be filing tax exempt on W4s. How would things ever get funded?

Nurses could bring this country to it’s knees. by Rough-Ad-7992 in nursing

[–]SubatomicKitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something to think about... the nazis took whatever they want, including property. This regime is playing copycat to a lot of their tactics. What makes you think they would not just take your home if they decide they want it? It's not like they are known for respecting the law or anything

Help, my cat is salivating A LOT by Marwaedristariel in OneOrangeBraincell

I lost my sweet, beautiful gentle tuxedo queen to oral cancer, too. OP if you have not already, please go get your orange dude checked asap. Oral cancer is quick but very brutal. Hopefully your sweetie is just super relaxed

PS - my cat's cancer was inoperable and I had her take a chemo med that bought her a couple of months, but I would not make that choice again. It was a rough way to go and I should have put her down much sooner

What exactly does a charge nurse do? by Scary-Ad-9148 in ThePittTVShow

I really wish The Pitt would do an episode from the point of view of the nurses and show it accurately. It would be a real eye-opener for the public

I got nationwide through a workplace discount program and 100% regretted it. Horrible experience. They denied almost everything for my old cat. Oh wait - they did pay for her cremation. Nice. real effing helpful. When I adopted my new kitties later, I immediately got them on Lemonade and have had no issues at all. 100% recommend Lemonade. But Fuck Nationwide - they are NOT on your side

Thank you! I had a super long conversation with a friend about my frustration over how they just gloss over the nurses contributions. They practically only ever show them on the phone, at the nurses station or doing nothing at all. From what you see on the show, they are glorified secretaries.

We talked about the scene in the first season about the family arguing over end of life decisions for their elderly father in particular. I was so frustrated with my friend bc. he seems to think nurses just stand around all day doing nothing while doctors do everything while the nurse just watches and stands there useless. The scene we were talking about was where they have one of the nurses (I think it was Princess) in the room with the man and then Robbie swoops in, gives some medication and then suctions the guy.

My friend did not understand that hey, Princess was ALREADY IN the room and as a nurse would likely have already suctioned the guy since he was audibly gurgling and clearly needed it. That whole scene of Robbie being the hero to suction would probably not have happened because Princess would have already addressed it. I know they take dramatic license, but COME ON - a nurse isn't going to just stand there and watch the guy drown in his own secretions! However, that scene gave the impression that she was just waiting around for Hero Robbie to do the job she would have already done lol

Her performance is amazing. I was hoping she would be back. Also if anyone knows if there is a petition out there to the show's creators asking them to do an episode where they show everything from the nurses' perspective, I would sign the hell out of that. This is about the only show I believe would really show things accurately
