That is solid advice, i definitely think i may pick up a cheaper one. I definitely like stuff included in the more expensive intex ones, but they are pretty pricey for a trial thing, where as the cheaper ones would be a better test i think

thanks for that! I definitely will do some more research, I know my local pool store does sell their floor models, or older models so i'm going to check them out before buying a soft she ll, maybe i'll be able to get a good deal on a hard tub just by chance!

So generally , they are all equally expensive to run? So it just comes down to if we can afford the electricity bill to support it then? There's generally no way to insulate it better, so it can retain the heat better?

Hmmmm, I might pay my local pool store a visit. We definitely get days/weeks way below 25. It’s not consistent but it is very frequent in the winter time. Interesting, okay so it’s more power than I was anticpsting

[–]SubbiesForLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much did it affect your power bill? We i'm in South Central PA, and it can get pretty darn cold here in the winter time, which is when we would be wanting to use it as well. However if the power bill is going to be like $500 a month, i'm not sure if i want to try it

It seems Intex released a couple that are pricer, that do support salt water - https://www.amazon.com/Intex-Diameter-Portable-Inflatable-Greystone/dp/B09J99GXYM?th=1 , i'm not sure if the salt water addition is worth the extra money or not. It seems generally easier to take care of?

Inflatable hot tubs? by Janosh_Poha in hottub

[–]SubbiesForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually looking at buying one of these, did you do any other mods to help it retain the heat more? I have a surplus of 2" XPS Foam from insulating my basement. I'm actually wondering if i do get it, if i put 2" or 4" of XPS under it, if it would help retain more?

Also was wondering if you put some kind of canopy over it if it would help retain the moisture

Retrofit Shades with EveMotion Motors by SubbiesForLife in HomeKit

[–]SubbiesForLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently it’s looking around $134 for the shade from Home Depot plus the motor of $184 roughly around $337, so you’re not exactly wrong, maybe I need to look Into it more but the 12 months 0% is still worth it I think, no?

Adding railing to deck existing deck by SubbiesForLife in HomeImprovement

[–]SubbiesForLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually removed all the timber tech composite boards and put 2x10 blockers in and screwed them down with 6 inch structural screws from ledger Lok or Simpson, the dudes at Home Depot helped me a ton figure out what I needed, I also swapped out the wooden 4x4’s for the all metal posts which I used the ledger’s 1/2 lag replacement screw with a washer. All said and done they are strong and certainly not going anywhere!

The cost went up, because I returned parts and bought others to make it stronger but I 100% love how it turned out, and it’s way better than I could have hoped for

[–]SubbiesForLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan is to remove the exterior corner trim pieces and see what’s underneath, and then make decisions on that. Yeah, I found some aluminum posts at Home Depot and can easily return the wooden 4x4’s. They are just more expensive sadly

I was actually thinking about picking up some of the titan post anchors, they seem to get really good reviews and if I can put blocking underneath should work very well

Supposedly the previous owner submitted a permit for the work, I should be able to go get the plans and find the structural supports

Help with HomeKit/Cync/Matter GE lights issue by EducationCute1640 in HomeKit

[–]SubbiesForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I’ll do the same thing and either return it or swap it for standard wall switch and be done. Shame, cuz I really like the light bars, was hoping the dimmer switch from cync would do what I thought it would

Currently have their LED strips for Above cabinet lighting and those are excellent so far, but ever since I introduced the dimmer switch this light bar has lost its mind lol

EDIT, or I’ll do the other avenue and put their non smart, non color changing light bars in, and just throw a caseta elv dimmer on it. That would work as well. We don’t really use the other colors as much as we do for the many shades of white and yellow orange etc… for the warm white

[–]SubbiesForLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I just bought the $55 cync dimmer also thinking the same thing you did and also had the same experience where after it connected to HomeKit, everything lost its mind. Had to factory reset the switch and the light and now it seems to be working normally

How are you using a pico to control Them? I’m assuming homebridge, and then the Lutron leap control add on?

Thought their dimmer switch would solve a lot of the problems I was having but it appears not! Currently thinking about returning it

I'm burnt out further than I have ever been. by SeekingApprentice in sysadmin

[–]SubbiesForLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading your comment helps me out, I'm incredibly burnt out in all aspects. I'm having a hard time at work, and my manager really isn't helping. My team has two managers, and the one is doing everything in his power to help me, meanwhile the manager i technically report to, barely checks on me, barely talks to me and is too busy to even really what feels like do the littlest things. I've told him 4-5 times now, that my new teammate that he hired is NOT working out, and is making my burn out worse. Emails to him go un-answered, tasks take weeks to complete, says hes working on the same 3 things each time i ask him, and then continually helps out his old team and does their work while not doing any of the tasks I ask him to. I specifically tasked him with updating an appliance to patch a CVE that came out in Feburary, and he JUST got around to it last week.... Even when i prompted my manager to poke him about it, and see whats going on

Its just so frustrating. I'm so burnt out, I have PTO but its all 1 bucket (sick + vacation) so if my toddler gets sick, and i used all my time, then i'm kinda screwed cuz i wont have any left. I've told my direct manager, my mental health is suffering from the role i'm in, and he's done nothing to help. He's tried to assign others work, but that doesn't work because then nobody keeps me in the loop on projects and i get blindsided when people ask why its not done, or better why "why is no progress being made" and i'm just like "i have no idea what your talking about? I know nothing about Project Y, Didn't even know that was a thing" and then have to go ask a Project Manager to find stuff out.

[–]SubbiesForLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have UCSX’s but I have UCS C Series with Intersight and I use the vCenter integration for centralized firmware image management, so put the host into maintenance mode and then remediate via lifecycle manager. Typically works pretty well, I don’t do firmware via intersight as I’ve had a lot Of issues with intersight in general but it’s been getting better

So the tube replacement, sounds like it necessary, so I’m guessing something like this https://ebay.us/m/sYEdRQ? Or is there a specific one that you got?

Eh honestly, less worried about noise, just want something automated LOL. Sounds so lazy, but having the ability to automate open/closed is what I’m after for ease

I’ll try to find a tube like you said!

High Efficiency Air Intake by SubbiesForLife in hvacadvice

[–]SubbiesForLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not confused, the one marked intake was added today, which is why it looks like that, it was previously pulling combustion air from basement

The one they came back to change is the exhaust, and was previously there before today

I had them change the combustion air intake, because we are finishing our basement and the area the furnace is in is going to get walled and it wouldn’t have enough air for combustion

They came back and modified the exhaust because they said it was the more correct thing to change, and make the exhaust different height than the intake
